There are plenty of relationships on Schitt's Creek that depict true love. Whether it be Johnny and Moira's decades-long marriage, Roland and Jocelyn's fun-yet-dysfunctional partnership or the joy that is Patrick and David's business venture turned forever love, the couples on Schitt's Creek are incredibly healthy for a sitcom.
One of the greatest couples is Ted and Alexis, who have a bumpy start that evolves to them changing for the better and developing a mature, loving relationship that exceeds viewer expectations. Ted and Alexis have an unexpected love, he's the opposite of what she would've pursued pre-show, but the way they grow together makes them soulmates.
When He Knew Her Middle Name
At the end of season one, Ted got down on one knee and proposed to Alexis, a question she answered both 'yes' and 'no' to. Though their first-go at a relationship was ultimately unsuccessful, there were plenty of cute moments that foreshadowed that they were meant to be.
When Alexis asked Johnny and Moira for her middle name to finish filling out her community service form for her DUI, they can't seem to the one they gave to her. However, when Ted proposes he asks 'Alexis Claire Rose' to marry him, proving that he knew her better than her own family.
When He Interviewed Her For A Job
In Season 3, Alexis notices that Ted is interviewing for a secretary position at the vet clinic. When she shows interest in the job, he offers it to her immediately knowing that she needs it and because he believes in her.
Alexis doesn't want it handed to her though, and instead demands that Ted give her a formal interview. During so, she realizes she doesn't know the answers to most of the questions and asks if she got the job anyway. He says yes, and she ended up working at the clinic until after she graduated from high school.
When She Impressed Him At The Vet Clinic
Though she had no istrative assistant experience, Alexis attempts to be a good secretary at the vet clinic and have her first big girl job.
She initially struggles but shows strength in connecting with clients. When an older woman's cat unexpectedly es away, she comforts her in the most-Alexis way possible, explaining all the dating opportunities the woman will have now that she's cat-free. Ted watches from afar and is both smitten and impressed that Alexis was able to rise to the occasion.
When He Picked Lice Out Of Her Hair
Left to her own devices after her parents and brother are disgusted by the lice outbreak at school, Alexis runs to Ted for help with getting the bugs out of her hair.
Ted steps up and removes the lice from his former girlfriend with the same treatment that would be used for the animals he treats. It's a disgusting moment, sure, having someone pick an infestation out of your hair, but the fact that Ted does it without hesitation is another indication that the two are right for one another.
When She itted She Was In Love With Him
After seeing Ted with his girlfriend Heather, David asks Alexis if she is in love with him. She says yes, and ponders what to do about it since he's in a committed relationship and she has hurt him before.
Ultimately, she decides to tell him the truth, visiting him at the vet clinic and confessing her feelings, "I love you. I’m in love with you. And, I know I don’t really have any right to say that to you. And also, I know you’re in a relationship. And I’m happy for you, I really am, I just feel like if I didn’t tell you how I felt I would literally go insane. You’re the sweetest man I’ve ever known. And, that’s it." That speech is what soulmates are made of.
When He Showed Up To Singles Week
Following her big love confession, Ted has a lot to think about and does so by talking it out with her brother, David.
He breaks things off with Heather and then heads to Alexis's 'Singles Week' event, participating in the speed dating round. He its that he feels the same exact way, and has been waiting to kiss her for two years. It's the moment viewers had been waiting for, and proof that sometimes love takes time.
When They Attempted Role-Play
While waiting for a package to be delivered to Rose Apothecary while both Patrick and David are away, Alexis invites Ted to accompany her.
Alexis suggests they hook up in the store while they wait, and engage in some really, really terrible levels of role-play. One of Ted's pickup lines is literally, "My grandmother ed away this morning." Yet, they still end up doing it in the bathroom and break the newly installed sink and disappointing David greatly. Their horrible flirting techniques yet again signify that these two are a match made in awkward Heaven.
When He Impersonated Her
During Patrick's housewarming party in Season 5, Alexis encourages Ted to let loose and have a little bit of fun which results in him drinking way past his tolerance level.
At the end of the night, after he's made out with David and stripped to just a muscle tee, he kisses Alexis in bed and makes jokes about kissing her brother. When she gives the typical Alexis response of "ew ew ew!" he mimics her and says, "'ew, ew, ew,' that's you!" Alexis can't help but smile as she closes her eyes, loving that her dorky boyfriend picks up her mannerisms so well.
When She Made A Horrible Pun For Him
Following the Schitt's Creek performance of Cabaret, everyone gathers at the Rosebud Motel for an afterparty/celebration of David and Patrick's recent engagement.
Ted, having been accepted to go to the Galapagos for his dream job has to depart early to catch his flight. Alexis gets the party's attention to send her love off, announcing "It's time for Ted to Galapa-go now!" It's a pun as bad, maybe even worse, than all the ones he's made throughout the series and a sign that their love is forever and ever.
When They Broke Up
Season 6 Episode 8 is a tear-jerker for Ted and Alexis fans. Ted has a brief return home to reunite with Alexis and inform her of the news that he's been offered a 3-year-long position in the Galapagos. She decides she is not going with him because of the PR success she is having where she is.
They make the difficult decision to let each other go so that they can live their dreams, and it's soul-crushing because of how much love there is between the two of them. There isn't a fight, no infidelity, just two people realizing that in order to be the best versions of themselves they have to part ways. It's a right person, wrong time scenario if there's even been one, and gives viewers the smallest bit of hope that if it's meant to be one day, it just might be.
