The School For Good and Evil has dropped on Netflix, and its cliffhanger ending and raised whether there will be a sequel. The School For Good and Evil is based on Soman Chainani’s novel of the same name, which is the first of a six-part book series. The School For Good and Evil follows best friends Sophie and Agatha (Sophia Anne Caruso and Sofia Wylie) who end up attending The School For Good and Evil, Sophie is put in the School for Evil, and Agatha the School for Good. In attempts to get out of the schools they believe they’ve been wrongly placed in, Sophie and Agatha uncover the evil truth behind the school which ends up in plenty of battles.

ends on a cliffhanger, with the School Master’s dagger being sent into Sophie and Agatha’s home of Gavaldon, which sets ideally sets up The School For Good and Evil 2. The new Netflix movie sticks to Chainani’s plot, so it is likely any potential sequel would follow the plot of the second book: The School For Good and Evil #2: A World Without Princes. There are also a lot of loose ends that need tying up from the first movie, such as Agatha’s relationship with Tedros (Jamie Flatters), and Sophie and Agatha’s new magical powers.

Sofia Wiley; Sophia Anne Caruso; Netflix

In an interview with Director Paul Feig, known for Ghostbusters remake, made it clear the intention is to build a movie franchise out of The School For Good and Evil books. Feig said he wanted to use the material of the books and explore the world even further, suggesting that any sequel would follow the events of the second book. However, there has been no official announcement yet from Netflix, so there is no set date or even predicted one for a potential sequel. If The School For Good and Evil 2 does happen then it would most likely be released in October 2024, based on the typical two-year turnaround which occur for Netflix sequels. The School For Good and Evil 2 would probably start filming next year if it followed a similar schedule to the first movie, which filmed from January to July 2021.

How The School For Good & Evil Sets Up A Sequel Movie

Although it seemed like Sophie and Agatha got their happily ever after in The School For Good and Evil, the final scene of the film shows Tedros’ arrow pierces the vortex between the two worlds and the audience hears him say “I need you Agatha.” The arrow is followed by the School Master’s dagger, who was just killed, raising many questions such as whether the School Master is still alive. Also, the Storian who narrates the movie (played by Cate Blanchett) says, “This was only the beginning,” revealing Sophie and Agatha’s dealings with the magical world are far from over. The School For Good and Evil ends in a way that perfectly sets up the sequel as there are loose ends that need to be finished and a new threat which is definitely after Sophie and Agatha.

What Happens In The School For Good & Evil Books?

Netflix; Sofia Wiley; Jamie Flatters

The School For Good and Evil books continue with Agatha and Sophie’s story. A World Without Princes sees Agatha secretly wishing for a different ending to her story, as she misses Tedros, and she opens the gates to the School. This has been changed for the movie, as the vortex was already opened by Tedros, but his calling for her suggests a sequel would continue their romance. The School, with plenty of new characters, has changed, and it does not separate based on Good and Evil, but now has a School for Girls and a School for Boys. The tensions between Agatha and Sophie are not quite over, and when they return to the School Sophie tries to keep Agatha away from Tedros and Sophie struggles with her villainous streak again. Despite their being no official announcement, The School For Good and Evil has plenty of content for a sequel and Feig’s comments only add more hope that the story will continue on screen.
