According to developer Ebb Software, their next-gen title, Scorn, is going to be an Xbox Series X exclusive to maintain parity with the PC version. Inspired by the nightmarish works of artists like H.R. Giger and Zdzisław Beksiński, Scorn features disturbing visuals and thrives on its horrific sensibilities. Story and gameplay details are being kept under wraps for the first-person adventure game, but Scorn is already shaping up to be one of the most provocative titles for the next generation.
Scorn has been in development for years for PC, and the recent May Xbox Showcase revealed the game will also launch on Microsoft's next-gen video game console, coronavirus pandemic.
In an interview with 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, and an Xbox One port simply would not be able to match that level of performance.
Peklar's comments make sense when it comes to Scorn making the best impression it can. Cross-gen ports are a neat idea, with services like Xbox Smart Delivery allowing owners of older hardware to play cutting-edge video games, albeit in a compromised form. However, Ebb Software decided the compromises wouldn't be worth the visual cost, especially if it means losing the precious 60 FPS.
In of the possibility of a PlayStation 5 version, Peklar's "no comment" suggests Scorn will be a timed exclusive for Xbox Series X, meaning a PlayStation 5 port may well arrive after several months or more, especially if the title proves successful for the independent Serbian studio. As of right now, Scorn is currently without a release date, but the only option for console players looking to indulge in the game's Eldritch presentation will be PC or Xbox Series X - at least at launch.
