Scorpion season 5 has been something fans of the CBS action drama have wanted since season 4 ended in 2018. Scorpion, stylized as , follows the titular cyber counterterrorism unit, which is the last line of defense against the many high-tech threats around the globe. While Scorpion often works in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security, they also take on plenty of private jobs ensuring all sides of cyberterrorism and hacking are depicted in the series.

Scorpion premiered in September 2014, and CBS did the show a solid by airing it in the timeslot after the immensely popular The Big Bang Theory, helping to catapult the series into becoming the network's highest-rated drama. Even after Scorpion was unhitched from The Big Bang Theory, ratings stayed high. Despite high ratings, Scorpion was never a critical success and generally received middling reviews, with a 61% overall for the first two seasons on Rotten Tomatoes. The cliffhanger season 4 finale aired in April 2018, and since then, fans have wanted to know when Scorpion season 5 is coming.

CBS Canceled The Series After Ratings Dipped

Unfortunately for fans of Scorpion, four seasons are likely all they are going to get considering the show was canceled after season 4 (via Deadline). In May 2018, Scorpion was on the ratings bubble and CBS, who was cleaning house anyway, decided there was not enough interest to renew the show, making the season 4 finale a series finale.

Scorpion Season 5 Cast

The Cast Made Heartfelt Social Media Posts When The Show Was Canceled

When Scorpio was canceled, the cast quickly took to social media to say their goodbyes with a lot of heartfelt messages. They didn't seem all too surprised about the fate of their series and were probably aware of the ratings downturn. CBS may have even spoken with them early on. Robert Patrick, who played Cabe Gallo, tweeted a big thank you to all the fans of the show and CBS.

Paige Dineen actress Katherine Mhee shared her appreciation for her cast and crew and said that they will always be a family,

Riley B. Smith, who starred as Ralph Dineen, posted on Instagram a heartfelt goodbye to the show, thanking everyone who was involved,

If Scorpion were to return for season 5, there would be no reason to think all eight of the show's main cast would not return. Walter (Elyes Gabel), Paige (Mhee), Toby (Eddie Kaye Thomas), Happy (Jadyn Wong), Sly (Ari Stidham), Cabe (Patrick), Ralph (Smith), and Florence (Tina Majorino) could all come back. Everyone ended season 4 in position to continue, so if season 5 ever happens, it'll likely include most of the cast returning.

Scorpion Season 5 Story Details

Season 5 Could See The Scorpion Team Fighting Against One Another

The characters of Scorpion working at a computer desk.

Scorpion season 4 ended on a cliffhanger that perfectly set up season 5. At the end of the season, infighting, jealousies, and secrets have caused the Scorpion team to split into Scorpion 2.0, consisting of Walter, Cabe, and Florence, while Paige, Sly, Happy, and Toby have spun off to form a rival hacking team, Centipede. Even if it's set years in the future, Scorpion could return to this plotline for season 5. Perhaps Centipede and Scorpion 2.0 spent years fighting over clients, occasionally having to share case details.

Season 5 of Scorpion could show the teams at their most bitter, neither one talking to the other, but then some major threat forces them to come together. There could be a lot of exciting plotlines that result from old enemies being reminded of why they used to be friends which would add a lot of depth to the show.
