Scream 7 filming is now underway, and it's set to bring back Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott and Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers, in addition to introducing some new characters.
As the wait continues for Scream 7, a new, fan-made poster from artist Sahin Düzgün for the movie imagines the return of another legacy character. The art sees Patrick Dempsey reprising his role as Mark Kincaid, a detective who is later revealed to have married Sidney. Dempsey is not confirmed to return for the seventh film, but the poster art suggests he could make for a surprising new Ghostface. Check out the art below:

What Patrick Dempsey's Return Would Mean For Scream 7
Who Stars In The Next Scream Movie?
In addition to Campbell and Cox, the Scream 7 cast includes Mason Gooding returning as Chad Meeks-Martin, as well as newcomers Isabel May, Mckenna Grace, Celeste O'Connor, Asa Germann, and Sam Rechner. It's entirely possible that more cast announcements are still to come and that Dempsey will be among them. The door for Mark's return remains open from a story perspective, after all, as he remains alive in the world of the movies, with 2022's Scream revealing that he and Sidney are married and have children together.

Scream 7’s Returning Cast Update Gives The Movie Its Biggest Challenge Yet
Scream 7 has its first confirmed returning character from the reboot trilogy, but even though this is exciting, it's also a big challenge.
After sitting out the well-reviewed Scream 6 due to a salary dispute, Campbell is set to take center stage once more in the sequel. If Dempsey were to return as well, this would give the movie the opportunity to more fully explore Sidney's family life, especially since May is expected to play her daughter. If Dempsey doesn't return, the movie will have the challenging task of explaining why a current or former police officer doesn't show up to protect his wife and daughter after a new Ghostace killer surfaces.
Our Take Dempsey's Potential Return For Scream 7
Why It Would Be A Good Idea For The Movie
Though the Scream 7 cast is already looking solid, it would be great to see another legacy character back in the fold. If he did return, it's entirely possible that he would either end up becoming a Ghostface victim or be unveiled to be Ghostface himself, but this could still be interesting if played right. If Dempsey doesn't return, the best course of action may be to kill the character off-screen or have him move back to LA after a divorce from Sidney, as this would eliminate any questions regarding why he isn't around.
David Arquette's Dewey, another legacy character, won't be returning as he died during the events of Scream (2022).
With Barrera having been fired due to her social media posts about the Israel-Palestine conflict and Ortega quitting due to some combination of a salary dispute and scheduling conflicts with Wednesday season 2, Scream 7 has an uphill battle ahead of it in of winning back some fans. Bringing back Dempsey could be one way to do this. The door hasn't closed on Mark's return just yet, and the latest poster art makes a strong case for his inclusion in the next movie, even if he ends up being Ghostface.
