Zach Braff opens up about whether he would ever a potential Scrubs reboot. The sitcom and medical drama aired across NBC and later ABC for 9 seasons from 2001 to 2010. In Scrubs, Braff portrayed John Michael "J.D" Dorian, the show's protagonist who starts the series as a young intern at the Sacred Heart Teaching Hospital, with the series chronicling his journey from intern to practicing physician, as well as his experiences with his coworkers and closest friends.

As reported by latter's new Apple+ television series, Shrinking, where he was asked whether he would be willing to reprise the role of J.D in a potential Scrubs reboot. Pointing to Lawrence, Braff stated that while a potential reboot would rely on the Scrubs creators' involvement, he would gladly the project were Lawrence to go ahead and make the project a reality. Check out Braff's full response below:

“That’s a good question for him. It all comes down to him. I think if he can figure it out, every single one of us would say yes. We do this podcast, Donald and I, and we have so much fun doing that, but it [would] be a hundred percent in [Bill Lawrence’s] hands, if he said yes and figured it out, we’d all be there.”

What Stories A Scrubs Reboot Could Tell

Elliot, JD, and Turk pose together in the hospital on Scrubs

While Scrubs reached its conclusion roughly 13 years ago, the series has continued to live on through both streaming and a dedicated podcast hosted by Braff and Donald Faison, who portrayed J.D's best friend Christopher Turk. As such, with sitcoms including How I Met Your Mother and That 70's Show receiving spin-offs and continuations, the possibility of a Scrubs reboot has been discussed many times in recent years. Braff shared his own idea for a potential Scrubs continuation storyline in 2022.

Beyond fulfilling Braff's dream storyline, a Scrubs reboot could also offer viewers the chance to see most of the original cast reunite after many of the show's original stars left their series regular roles following season 8, save for Faison and John C. McGinley. Scrubs season 9 featured a new cast and setting, as the series followed medical students studying at Winston University under Christopher Turk and McGinley's Dr. Cox, who were now professors. While the season did see many of the original series stars, including Braff, return for brief appearances, Scrubs season 9 was poorly received by audiences despite generally positive reviews, receiving the show's lowest ratings. As such, a potential reboot could provide the opportunity to bring back many characters and provide viewers with a second definitive farewell to the core cast by showing how each character has changed since their last appearance.

Scrubs left a lasting impression on audiences through its unique comedic structure and cutaway gags, alongside heartfelt and emotional storylines that tackled difficult subjects. As such, many involved in the series and viewers who grew up watching J.D and his friends' daily lives at the Sacred Heart Hospital have entertained the idea of a potential Scrubs reboot, including Lawrence himself. And with Braff now confirming his interest in returning to his beloved sitcom role, longtime fans may be eager to see if a potential Scrubs reboot will occur in the foreseeable future.
