The Star Shards in Sea of Stars are Seraï’s best weapon in the game, but are only obtainable during the last portion of the main campaign. This pair of daggers can be looted from a boss during a side quest. While the item is not necessary to conclude the story of Sabotage Studio’s turn-based RPG, it can give you an extra hand while facing the last threats available in the campaign due to its increased damage output. To get the Star Shards, you will need to progress further into the campaign and reach the portion of the story leading up to the encounter within the Fleshmancer’s Castle.

[Warning: The following article contains spoilers for Sea of Stars.]As soon as you defeat the Dweller of Dread, you will unlock several endgame missions that allow you to gear up for the final confrontation. By defeating this boss; you will unlock the flight ability, which will then allow you to visit previously unreachable areas and find secrets across the maps. This includes solving all Solstice Shrines and facing the Elder Mist in Sea of Stars for a second time to unlock legendary weapons for Valere and Zale, as well as the search and battle against The Queen That Was, also known as the Gun Goddess, who drops the Star Shards for Seraï once she is defeated.

How To Find The Queen That Was (Gun Goddess Boss) In Sea Of Stars

A market place with two characters ing through in Sea of Stars.

Upon reaching the final portion of the game before entering Fleshmancer’s Castle in Seraï’s World, you may unlock the quest to find The Queen That Was in Sea of Stars. To start this secondary mission, you need to set up a camp (or rest at an inn) and talk to Seraï. The playable character will inform you that there is yet another threat to her world besides the Fleshmancer, called The Queen That Was, whose whereabouts are unknown inside the Cerulean Expanse. She will then gift you an Artifact called Joce’s Belt Buckle and ask you to give it to Teaks, as she can help decipher the mystery.

You must hand the Artifact over to the Traveling Historian Teaks in Sea of Stars, and she will tell you the story of an expedition into the Cerulean Expanse. She mentions that three teams adventured there one cardinal direction per day. The first one, led by a character named Brochu, headed northeast, southeast, south, and then southwest. Brochu’s team felt well during the first two days of the adventure but not on the last two days. Elbi led the second expedition crew. Their team started going southwest, then went south, southwest once again, and then east. Elbi’s team only felt well during their fourth day.

The third and last group was led by Joce, the owner of the Belt Buckle. Joce’s party started their search through the north, moving east, northeast, and south. Their team only felt well during the third day. The solution to the puzzle of The Queen That Was’ location in Sea of Stars lies in understanding the riddle left behind by Joce. You must mix and match the coordinates according to the days the teams felt confident about their progress. After this, you will want to return to the Cerulean Expanse and follow the coordinates found in the riddle.

The solution to the puzzle in the Cerulean Expanse is heading northeast, southeast, northeast, and east in that specific order. This will get you to The Queen That Was.

After correctly following the coordinates, you will reach an area holding a Speedball station. This means of transportation will take you directly to where the Gun Goddess boss is found. Before facing her, however, you may do some exploring. In the area is a chest with a Rainbow Conch, essential to getting the true ending of Sea of Stars. There is also a campfire and save point. Filling up your food stash, restoring HP, and saving the game before heading up the last set of stairs is recommended.

How To Beat Gun Goddess Boss In Sea Of Stars

Seraï faces the Gun Goddess boss in Sea of Stars with her party of Zale, Valere, Resh'an, and B'st behind her.

When you climb the last set of stairs in the area, you will trigger a small cutscene in which Seraï will attack a dormant machine, initiating the fight against The Queen That Was, also known as the Gun Goddess boss. Unlike Sea of Stars' Romaya, this boss is arguably the easiest among the endgame options. Nevertheless, she has some moves that can easily take out your characters, so you should proceed cautiously. Gun Goddess spawns six bullets beside her that are extremely resistant to your elemental attacks. Though they must be destroyed as quickly as possible, you should not be directing your efforts into beating them individually.

The best strategy here is using AoE attacks that damage both the Gun Goddess boss and her bullets. Even if pure damage is not the focus, it is also a good idea to use AoEs to break her locks and try to deal damage to the bullets simultaneously.

If the bullets do not go down, and she uses a charged attack that has not broken all four locks, the Gun Goddess will execute Fan the Hammer. This move sees her use the bullets to hit the party randomly. The attack deals a lot of damage and is core to her combat loop, so destroying the bullets and her locks is the safest way to play. Alternatively, the Gun Goddess can use this move to restore the bullets after they are all destroyed. This is a move to keep an eye out for, but not the most dangerous one in Sea of Stars.

Her most powerful move is called The Shot, and it is protected behind nine locks. It sees the Gun Goddess transform into a handgun and shoot a single munition at a random character. It is crucial to try to destroy all locks whenever possible, as this move can one-shot the target, depending on your gear and stats. If not downed, they will be left with very little HP and require restoration. You can use moves to delay The Shot’s countdown in Sea of Stars, like Seraï’s Disorient, and allow you to destroy all nine locks in time.

Using recipes in Sea of Stars to cook powerful meals ahead of the battle is a great idea, as they can be used to restore or revive party .

Other than those two special moves, the other regular attacks used by the Gun Goddess boss are quite simple and do not threaten the team much. You should make the most out of all your characters to break her locks and deal as much damage as possible through AoEs to get through the fight. Once The Queen That Was is defeated, she will drop Star Shards, Seraï’s best weapon in Sea of Stars, while granting the "Better of Dead" Trophy or Achievement.
