Marvel Studios' Loki is next up, but Marvel Studios is currently gearing up for Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) to reunite in Secret Invasion.
The Disney+ series is loosely based on the comic event of the same name created by Brian Michael Bendis. The MCU's Secret Invasion is already shaping up to be quite different from the comics, which saw Skrulls secretly invade Earth and impersonate some of the biggest Marvel characters. Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feige, has confirmed that the show will be smaller in scale and not feature as expansive of a cast, but that hasn't stopped the ensemble from filling up with talented actors. Now there is news that Jackson and Mendelsohn have another new co-star.
According to Deadline, Christopher McDonald has ed the cast of Secret Invasion. McDonald is best known for playing Shooter McGavin in Happy Gilmore opposite Adam Sandler. Details on his character are largely being kept under wraps, but Deadline has heard that he's playing an original character, not from the comics. McDonald's Secret Invasion role reportedly has the potential to return in future MCU movies and Disney+ shows.
Marvel has managed to keep a tight lid on who the actors involved in Secret Invasion are playing. Kingsley Ben-Adir is reportedly playing the villain, but there is no further information on his role. Meanwhile, Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, and Killian Scott's characters have not been revealed or teased. This puts McDonald's addition in a slightly different position. Instead of Marvel fans speculating who he could be from the comics, he is confirmed to play a new character. But, it is unknown if he'll be a friend or foe to Fury and Talos.
There might not be any clarity as to who McDonald will play in Secret Invasion, but that shouldn't stop fans from getting exciting over his addition to the MCU. McDonald has a long career playing a wide variety of characters, so he could do just about anything Marvel needs him to. It'd be fun to see him as a SWORD agent working with Fury or even as another member of the Skrulls. With production on Secret Invasion slated to begin later this year, it might be a while before more information on McDonald's role surfaces.
