The Disney+ show Captain Marvel. Nick Fury hasn't been seen in the MCU since Far From Home and the show will likely unpack more of his character, but there are other characters that will finally get the opportunity to be more fleshed out.

Cobie Smulders, who portrays Maria Hill, revealed that Secret Invasion gives Maria more depth and even hinted that some of Maria's backstory will be explored. Don Cheadle has also spoken highly of his role in the series, as he is set to reprise James "Rhodey" Rhodes, a.k.a. War Machine. Cheadle described the series as a "rebirth" for the character (via EW). It is known that someone (possibly Fury himself) is building a human-Skrull alliance, as seen at the end of WandaVision when Monica Rambeau is recruited by a Skrull in disguise. Nick Fury has a history of making morally questionable decisions in the MCU, and Hill has never wavered in her . So far, Phase 4 has depicted the effects of Nick Fury's real Avengers dream and it hasn't been as noble as "Bringing together a group of remarkable people." In fact, it seems like control over enhanced individuals has only gotten harsher, as seen in both Ms. Marvel and Spider-Man: No Way Home and it is possible that Fury may be behind it–especially if he himself is a Skrull in disguise.

Much has yet to be revealed about the Disney+ show but the promise of three returning characters finally getting the on-screen time they deserve has kept audiences excited. There are many possible routes that could be explored for Fury, Hill, and Rhodey, and it is likely that all three of them will have much larger roles in the MCU moving forward. Secret Invasion is set to premiere on Disney+ in early 2023.
