A newly unveiled oset video from the production of Marvel's Secret Invasion has revealed the return of Cobie Smulders' Maria Hill and the re-introduction of Ben Mendelsohn's Talos, the Skrull impersonator of Nick Fury. After years of a newer Nick Fury project attempting to be written, Marvel executive, Kevin Feige, finally confirmed a Fury-centric series was in development during Disney's 2020 Investor day. The series was later announced to be called Secret Invasion, revealing it to be based on the Marvel Comics run of the same name.
ing Smulders and Mendelsohn in the star-studded Secret Invasion cast are Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Killian Scott as Fiz, and Kingsley Ben-Adir, Olivia Coleman, Emilia Clarke, Christopher McDonald, Noel Fisher, and Carmen Ejogo all as to-be-confirmed characters. Without an official synopsis, many fans believe it will take large inspiration from the comic storyline, which featured an army of Skrulls seemingly infiltrating Earth and impersonating many of the Marvel Universe's heroes. While currently in the filming stages, the series is expected to hit Disney+ for streaming at some point in 2022.
In a tweet from Twitter , lacking any green, Skrull-like features in Mendelsohn's case. The video sees the pair look on at a Russian Festival in the streets before seemingly ing it as an attempt at cover. Despite this being the first time Samuel L. Jackson's incarnation of Nick Fury will be getting the spotlight in a Marvel Cinematic Universe series, this is not the first time the character has been given a live-action, centric outing. Back in May 1998, a very different version of the character was given a television debut in the TV movie, Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., being played by actor David Hasselhoff. This incarnation greatly popularized the character at the time, despite its mostly negative reception and also encouraged another series to be put into development in 2006, based on the original Hasselhoff production, before Jackson's casting in the role.
With this new unveiling of the series' production in full swing, alongside the many other teasers of cast on set and in their characters' costumes, audiences can start getting excited about the show's release, which could come sooner than expected with the amount of filming being shown. Furthermore, the return of Smulders particularly highlights characters from the past returning to updated Marvel shows in higher capacity, possibly opening up doors for other characters to return in the future. Audiences can catch Secret Invasion streaming on Disney+ in 2022.
