Apple TV+’s hit sci-fi TV show finally returns after a three-year hiatus, with Severance season 1 ended in 2022, the wait for the show to return became more grueling due to its widespread acclaim, timely and original twists, and slew of subsequent sci-fi dramas hitting Apple TV+ in the time since. Though the delay has certainly been longer than expected, Severance season 2 is thankfully back on the small screen starting January 17, 2025.
With Adam Scott, Britt Lower, John Turturro, and Zach Cherry returning to lead Severance season 2’s cast as Lumon Industries’ severed Macrodata Refinement department employees, the show’s second outing is proving to be worth the wait. Severance season 2 debuts with a 97% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics, impressively suring the inaugural season’s 94% rating. Receiving substantial praise for its cast performances, compelling narrative turns, and nightmarish character developments, Severance season 2 makes it worth the wait as the episodes build to what is certain to be a shocking, twist-filled finale.
Severance Season 2 Has 10 Total Episodes
Season 1 Only Had 9 Episodes
The long-awaited Severance season 2 will have 10 total episodes. Severance season 2’s episode count comes as a welcome surprise, being a step up from season 1’s nine-episode total. Though it’s only one additional episode, Severance season 2 being just that much longer contributes to the three-year gap between seasons being more worth it. The 10-episode season count also mirrors the release strategy of some other recent Apple TV+ sci-fi shows like Silo and For All Mankind.

Severance Season 1 Recap: 10 Biggest Things To Before Season 2
Severance season 2 has finally confirmed a release date, but enough time has ed since season 1 that it’s worth looking back at the biggest twists.
Like season 1, Severance season 2’s episode runtimes will generally come in at a little under an hour. The sophomore outing is also repeating season 1’s overall release strategy with new episodes debuting week-by-week, rather than dropping all 10 episodes at once.
