Warning! This article contains spoilers for Severance season 2's episode 6.
This article mentions a storyline that involves a suicide attempt.
Severance season 1's ending, Helena Eagan took the opportunity to replace her innie at the Lumon office. Initially, it was hard not to believe that she did this to mitigate the damage caused by her innie to Lumon's reputation.
However, as the season progressed, it became evident that she had ulterior motives. Irving caught her red-handed in Severance season 2's episode 6, she even stalks his outie and intentionally bumps into him in a Chinese restaurant, making it hard not to wonder what she wants from him.
Helena Witnessed Mark Save Her Life In Severance Season 1
She Sees Him As Her Savior
In one of its darkest sequences, Severance season 1 showed how Helly resorted to extreme measures to escape Lumon. When her outie, Helena, disagreed to let her go and dehumanized her by saying that she had no autonomy, Helly took her fate into her own hands and attempted suicide by hanging herself in the elevator. Eagle-eyed viewers might have noticed that during this scene, the elevator heads down soon after Helly hangs herself. As soon as the elevator "dings," Helly also transitions into Helena before it heads back up.

Helly/Helena’s Innie Twist In Severance Season 2, Episode 4 Fully Explained
Severance season 2, episode 4 confirms a popular theory about Helly and Helena, which will have major consequences for MDR's Innies and Outies.
When the elevator reaches the severed floor again, it is Helena who remains conscious and not Helly. Owing to this, Helena Eagan witnesses Mark save her life. Doug Graner seems to realize that Helly has transitioned into her outie, explaining why he forces Mark to leave. Even later in the series, Helena keeps feeling the pressure mark around her neck because she experienced the full impact of Helly's actions. However, she feels grateful that Mark's innie saved her life before it was too late, which could be the biggest reason behind her obsession with him.
Helena's Obsession With Mark Goes Beyond Her Jealousy Towards Helly
In Her Eyes, He Is Not Like The Other Innies
Helena's fixation with Mark undoubtedly has something to do with her shared physiology with her innie, Helly. To a large degree, she also feels jealous of how her innie gets to live more freely and experience true romance while she has to bear the pressures and expectations of being an Eagan. However, as the Severance season 1 scene implies, her feelings for Mark stem from something deeper.
Since Helena has never seen anyone else love her so unconditionally, she cannot help but grow obsessed with Mark.
Time and again, Severance has suggested that Helena's father, Jame Eagan, enforces his high expectations on Helena. He forces her to honor the Eagan family's legacy and rudely calls her a "fetid moppet" for her innie's actions even though she had no control over her. This establishes that even if he loves his daughter, he does it conditionally. Mark's innie, in contrast, unconditionally ires Helly, which is reflected in his demeanor when he saves her in Severance season 1. Since Helena has never seen anyone else love her so unconditionally, she cannot help but grow obsessed with Mark.
