Sex and The City helped pave the way for how women would be perceived on television and gave them a voice and a chance to be three dimensional. A lot of that was due to the fact the show wasn't afraid to show women who wanted to have one night stands or make decisions for themselves based on what they wanted out of love.

At the center of Sex and the City was Carrie Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker. She was unapologetically herself, and with that came a lot of iconic (and some cringe-worthy) lines that people even years after the show has canceled. A woman on the pursuit of true love, Carrie made a lot of attempts to woo potential suitors. While some may have worked on the show, who's to say they would in real life. Below are some of Carrie's lines that might work in the real world, and some that never would.

Might Actually Work: "Maybe We Should See Each Other Less And Then We Can Miss Each Other More"

More of a classic break up line than a pick-up line, this one might hit somebody deeper. However, it is bound to make the break up less awkward for you than it could have been, mainly because of its wording. Instead of a negative connotation, there’s a positive and cute sentiment there if you aren’t reading between the lines.

It’ll take a moment to hit somebody, and after a few days, they might realize that it is in fact...over between the two of you. The best part of it all? You can sleep easy knowing you didn't just ghost somebody.

Never Would: "Maybe Some Women Aren't Meant To Be Tamed. Maybe They Need To Run Free Until They Find Someone Just As Wild To Run With."

This is far too cheesy and cookie-cutter to actually work, right? It is definitely more of an internal monologue moment or even something you might scribble into your journal. Definitely not something to actually say to somebody you’re on a date with. What else about it doesn’t work? It’s not even funny.

There are those terrible pickup lines you’ve known for years and dread somebody using on you, but at least you can stifle a laugh out of those. This one just feels like its too much and stolen right off of a 13-year-olds Pinterest board.

Might Actually Work: "I Am Someone Who Is Looking For Real Love. Ridiculous, Inconvenient, Consuming. Can’t Live Without Each Other Love."

Perhaps one of the most iconic and memorable Carrie Bradshaw lines, this one is definitely emotional and capable of bringing together two people. On the first date, this might be a bit much.

However, its a solid pick-up line for somebody you might know a little more and want to have a future with or a friendship that you're trying to turn romantic. It shows a commitment to the relationship and a willingness to always make it work. Most of all, it also shows an understanding that no relationship is completely perfect. Carrie really was onto something here!

Never Would: "A Relationship Is Like Couture; If It Doesn't Fit Perfectly, It's A Disaster."

Far too niche to actually work, Carrie's love of fashion clearly got the best of her with this one. On the off chance that the person you're going on a date with absolutely adores New York Fashion Week and Haute Couture, then sure. This would be the absolute perfect way to strike up a conversation.

Although the likelihood of that is low though, and instead, it'll just fall on deaf ears and ultimately make things very awkward. There's no coming back from an awkward pick-up line, so you just have to walk away with dignity.

Might Actually Work: "In A City Like New York, With Its Infinite Possibilities, Has Monogamy Become Too Much To Expect?"

Starting any pick-up line with a question is the perfect way to keep a conversation going. Even if it might not be the most interesting question, it'll still be able to work.

This one, in particular, also creates an opportunity for your potential date to flirt back with you in response, or even hint that they are looking for a monogamous relationship too. Regardless, this one is bound to work in some way or another and New York can easily be substituted with any other city you're living in.

Never Would: "Maybe All Men Are A Drug. Sometimes They Bring You Down And Sometimes, Like Now, They Get You So High."

Relating men to a drug addition on the first date, or even the first meeting? Probably would not go as easily as you thought it would in your head. This one is definitely something to keep in your journal as you scribble down your feelings about somebody...but do not let it leave the paper.

Carrie Bradshaw had a tendency to say things that should have stayed in her column, but that doesn't mean that is what everybody else should do. Definitely think things through before saying them, and this pick-up line is one example of that.

Might Actually Work: "Hello ..... Lover"

This one is really just a simple but effective move. It's a quick introduction with flirting packed into it. It is easy to do in person with a sensual vibe to it, or over Tinder which gives it a playfulness that'll be sure to give somebody a smile.

It is the kind of pick-up line you want to do when you're making the move too, which already adds a bonus to it that shows you're adventurous and willing to take control of the situation. This is, without a doubt, a solid pick-up line.

Never Would: "Have We Become Romance Intolerant?"

Imagine trying to be romantic, or insightful, but making the person you're on a date with immediately think of lactose intolerance. It is not that Carrie didn't have a point when she said this, it's merely that the wording was all off. In 2020 it seems that everybody is lactose intolerant, so there is no escaping the comparisons, even if you try really hard at it.

Maybe instead take Carrie's words and spin them a little. Try "Have we become narrow-minded when it comes to romance?" That version sounds better and an upset stomach won't have anything to do with it.

Might Actually Work: "In Matters Of Love, Do Actions Speak Louder Than Words?"

This pick-up line as a message on Tinder, or from a person coming up to you at a bar...it just works. It has just the right level of cheesiness, but it is also quite clever.

By making the first move, you're showing that actions do speak louder than words. No matter what you are saying, the person across from you (or behind the screen) will be impressed and flattered. You're suddenly funny, charming, and a risk-taker in their eyes. That is the whole package for some people, so they are bound to give you a chance!

Never Would: "Soul Mate. Two Little Words, One Big Concept."

Again with the too much too soon business. Carrie Bradshaw was pretty good at falling in love fast, or believing that every relationship was destiny.

In reality, bringing these elements up as a pick-up line? Not going to end well. Its the easiest way to scare somebody off, even if you might just be asking for their thoughts on the matter. If you phrased this quote as a question, it might work on a second date...but definitely not on a first, and definitely not as a pick-up line. That is some pressure that nobody can handle dealing with.
