Although Sex Education season 4 is unfortunately the last installment in a beloved coming-of-age series, the final season's cast offered a great balance between the characters audiences know and love, and some new faces to add a bit of flair. Sex Education season 4 brought viewers back to the fictional town of Moordale, where Otis, Eric, and the rest of the gang were starting at their new school, Cavendish College. Meanwhile, Maeve traveled to American to attend the prestigious Wallace University, and the Sex Education adults struggled with motherhood and relationships.

One aspect of Sex Education that makes it particularly special is its vast and talented cast. While many actors share the screen, especially in the fourth season, each character is unique, diverse, and dynamic. It is easy for series to get bogged down by large casts, but Sex Education season 4 is the final season and has a big cast, but it is full of lovable individuals.

Asa Butterfield As Otis Milburn

It should be no surprise that Asa Butterfield returned in Sex Education season 4 to play the series' protagonist, Otis Milburn. Otis is an awkward teen that uses his knowledge of sex and relationships to start a sex therapy business at his school. Otis' heart is in the right place, but he often makes mistakes in his relationships, and can become overwhelmed by his anxiety. Asa Butterfield has had a successful career as a child actor, and is best known for projects such as The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Hugo, Ender's Game, and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.

Sex Education would not be what it is without Ncuti Gatwa. Gatwa plays Eric, a fabulous and vibrant teen that is always on the search for fun and romance. Despite being Otis' best friend, Eric is most definitely his own person with his own personality and struggles. Particularly in season 4, Eric faces serious issues concerning his sexuality and his religion. Though Sex Education was Gatwa's breakout role, he has since garnered some serious fame. In 2023, Gatwa appeared in Greta Gerwig's Barbie, and he is slated to star as The Doctor in the season of Doctor Who.

Emma Mackey As Maeve Wiley

The third member of the Sex Education trio is Emma Mackey as Maeve Wiley. Maeve is Moordale's cool girl who strikes the perfect balance of badass and intelligent. She may look scary, but Maeve actually has a heart of gold and a love for romance via Jane Austen novels. She helps Otis run his sex therapy business, but this soon becomes complicated by their feelings for one another. Emma Mackey is yet another actor whose breakout role was Sex Education, and yet again, she has risen to stardom since. Mackey starred in the film Emily, appeared in Death on the Nile, and also, had a minor role in Barbie.

Connor Swindells As Adam Groff

Though he started out as Moordale's biggest bully, Connor Swindells' Adam has only become better and better. In the show's early seasons, Adam was known for his apparent lack of intelligence and his cruelty towards Moordale students, however, his humanity began to show when he revealed his feelings for Eric. From there, Adam went on a journey of not only becoming kinder, but discovering himself. By season 4, he becomes a true star. Aside from Sex Education, Connor Swindells has held roles in projects like Emma, Barbarians, Barbie and SAS: Rogue Heroes.

One especially fun Sex Education character is Aimee Gibbs. Though Aimee seems clueless at the start of the series, her quirks and struggles prove that she is actually quite intelligent, and also, completely adorable. Aimee is Maeve's best friend and enters relationships with Adam, Steve, and Isaac. Aimee is played by British actor Aimee Lou Wood. Wood's career began on stage, and after appearing in Sex Education, she earned roles in films such as The Electrical Life of Louis Wain, Living, and the Seize Them! Wood is also slated to appear in the miniseries, Alice & Jack and Toxic Town.

Another major player in Sex Education is Kedar Williams-Stirling's Jackson Marchetti. Jackson is a stereotypical cool guy and athlete, that eventually learns that being in touch with his feelings and his relationships is much healthier than winning all the time. In the show, he deals with his anxiety and his identity. Williams-Stirling's career began in 2007 with a film entitled Shank, and he has continued acting since. His most popular projects include Roots, Will, and Changeland.

Despite Ruby's reputation as a certified mean girl, her presence is always welcome in Sex Education. Ruby may be one part of a cruel trio of popular kids at Moordale, but her cool exterior eventually breaks down to show off her insecurities and surprisingly kind heart. Ruby briefly dates Otis in the series. Ruby's actor, Mimi Keene, began her career as a child star in 2013. Since then, she earned roles in EastEnders, Tolkien, and After Everything.

Gillian Anderson As Jean Milburn

A main character that is not a teenager but is still just as indispensable to the series is Gillian Anderson's Jean Milburn. Jean is Otis' mother and a sex therapist. Jean is something of a cool mom, however, her decisions can sometimes be chaotic and troubling. Luckily, Jean always finds a way to fix her mistakes and help others with their problems. Gillian Anderson has had an incredibly successful career, though her best-known role is likely Agent Dana Scully in The X-Files. More recently, Anderson has earned fame for her roles in Hannibal, The Crown, and First Lady.

Alistair Petrie As Michael Groff

The final main character to appear in Sex Education season 4 is Michael Groff. Michael begins the series as the mean principal at Moordale Secondary School, and also, Adam's father. Michael is most definitely a villain at the start of the series, however, he eventually grows into a more understanding and loving person. Alistair Petrie plays Michael in Sex Education. Petrie is best known for his roles in Cloud Atlas, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Sherlock, and The Night Manager.

Chinenye Ezeudu as Vivienne 'Viv' Odusanya: Viv returns to Sex Education season 4 with her focus on academics, as per usual. However, she finds herself bogged down by a boy's affections. Ezeudu has appeared in 2022's The School for Good and Evil and 2023's Silent Roar.

Samantha Spiro as Maureen Groff: One Sex Education character whose storyline shined in season 4 was Maureen's. Maureen is Adam's mother and Michael's wife. Though Maureen is happy to pursue an independent life, her relationship with Michael still lingers. Samantha Spiro, Maureen's actor, has had a long career, but her best known projects include Doctor Who and Game of Thrones.

Dua Saleh as Cal Bowman: A vital ing character in Sex Education season 4 is Cal. Cal is a non-binary student looking for love and understanding from their peers. Cal's actor, Dua Saleh, has not appeared on-screen apart from Sex Education, but is a singer-songwriter specializing in rap, R&B, and pop.

Lisa McGrillis as Joanna Franklin: A newcomer to Sex Education is Lisa McGrillis as Joanna Franklin. Joanna is Jean's younger sister, who is hilarious, and both trouble and a big help. McGrillis has previously appeared in Inspector George Gently, No Offence, and Deadwater Fell.

George Robinson as Isaac Goodwin: Though Maeve has gone to America, her former flame Isaac appears in Sex Education season 4. While he is cynical as always, he forms an unlikely bond with the optimistic Aimee. George Robinson's breakout role was Sex Education, and he has since appeared in the series Dalgliesh and Perfect.

Hannah Gadsby as Celia: Another new character with a familiar face is Celia. Played by Hannah Gadsby, Celia is a quippy and laidback radio station manager that grows close to Jean over the course of her show, Sexology. Hannah Gadsby is best known for her comedy, and in particular, her specials Nanette and Douglas.

Dan Levy as Mr. Molloy: Another comedian that had a special role in Sex Education season 4 was Dan Levy. Levy played Mr. Molloy, Maeve's strict writing teacher. Levy is best known for his creation of the comedy series Schitt's Creek.

Thaddea Graham as O: Sex Education season 4 is full of new faces, including Thaddea Graham's O. O is Cavendish's sex therapist, and Otis' main competition. She is a dynamic character that is both good and bad. Before Sex Education, Graham appeared in projects such as The Irregulars, Doctor Who, Redemption, and Wreck.

Anthony Lexa as Abbi Montgomery: Another exciting new character in the season is Abbi Montgomery. Abbi is the leader of The Coven, at Cavendish, and uses her positive energy for good and for bad. Abbi is played by Anthony Lexa. Sex Education is Lexa's first acting gig, however, she is also a pop artist.

Alexandra James as Aisha Green: The second member of The Coven is Aisha. Aisha is a sassy and intelligent character that is open about her struggles as a deaf person. She begins a romantic relationship with Cal. Alexandra James has previously appeared on The Break and Backstage.

Felix Mufti as Roman: The final member of The Coven is Roman. Roman is an upbeat and colorful character who confides in Otis when he faces troubles with his girlfriend, Abbi. Roman is portrayed by Felix Mufti. Sex Education is Mufti's acting debut.

Rakhee Thakrar as Emily Sands: A Sex Education character that was not anticipated to return, yet she did, was Emily Sands. Rakhee Thakrar's character is the former English teacher at Moordale. Thakrar had a regular role on EastEnders and Children in Need. She is also set to appear in Wonka.

Jim Howick as Colin Hendricks: Alongside Thakrar was her fictional love interest Jim Howick as Colin Hendricks. Hendricks was a science teacher at Moordale and the conductor of the swing band. Howick is known for his appearances in Peep Show, Horrible Histories, Stag, Ghosts and Here We Go.

Jack Gleeson as Mo: A surprising cameo in Sex Education season 4 was Jack Gleeson as Mo. Mo appears briefly in the season as a friend and roommate of Sean Wiley. Gleeson is best known for his role as Joffrey in Game of Thrones.

Hannah Waddingham as Sofia Marchetti: A recurring ing character that appeared in Sex Education season 4 is Sofia Marchetti, played by Hannah Waddingham. Sofia is one of Jackson's moms. Waddingham is best known for her roles in Hocus Pocus 2, Ted Lasso, and Game of Thrones.

Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Roz Marchetti: Jackson's other mother, Roz, also makes an appearance in Sex Education season 4. Her actor, Sharon Duncan-Brewster has previously been in Star Wars: Rogue One, Dune, and Enola Holmes 2.

Reda Elazouar as Beau: A ing character that is less than nice is Sex Education's Beau. Beau is a student at Cavendish that seems to be Viv's perfect match, but turns out to have a dark streak. Reda Elazouar plays Beau in season 4. Elazouar has appeared in The Little Drummer Girl, EastEnders, and Pirates.

Shak Benjamin as Adedayo: Sex Education season 4 included a new love interest for Eric named Adedayo. Like Eric, Adedayo is a member of the church but is also gay, however, he is not as open as Eric is, leading to turmoil. He is played by Shak Benjamin. Benjamin has previously been in The Tower.
