The cast missing in Sex Education season 4, many speculate that it will be the show's final season. That being said, this would be the writer's opportunity to give the beloved characters the perfect send-off, but there may not be enough time for the writers to do the Otis and Maeve relationship justice.
Timing has always been an issue for Otis and Maeve. In season 1, the two fall for each other, but it takes Maeve too long to realize her feelings, and Otis attempts to move on by dating Ola. In season 2, Maeve its her feelings for Otis, but he is angry she waited so long to tell him. After drunkenly humiliating Maeve at his party, Otis sends Maeve a voicemail apologizing and its he loves her. But she never receives it because her neighbor, Issac, deletes it. It isn't until season 3 that the two are on the same page. Otis and Ruby break up when he realizes he isn't over Maeve, and Issac tells Maeve about the voicemail. Finally, it seems as if the two can be together. But Maeve gets the opportunity to study in the U.S. and has to leave only a day after the two reconcile.
One of Sex Education's strengths is its realistic storytelling approach, but it raises the question: would Maeve and Otis ending up together be a practical choice? More than likely, the couple wouldn't work out in the real world, so a fairy-tale ending for the couple in the series would betray the realism that has worked so well for the relationships in the show. While the two have come a long way and seemingly handled their previous communication issues, they are still young, and timing is clearly not on their side.
Will Otis & Maeve Get Back Together In Sex Education Season 4?
It looks like Aimee, who had hope for Maeve and Otis, told Maeve she couldn't up the opportunity to study abroad for a boy because Maeve would never let her. Overall, it makes the most sense for their characters that Maeve takes the opportunity, and Otis wants her to go.
Even if Maeve and Otis could get the timing right, there is still a slim chance their relationship would work out, given their age. If the cast is correct, Sex Education season 4 could be the end. Therefore, the writers might have one season to wrap up the Otis and Maeve romance, which may not be enough time. Therefore, Sex Education should continue playing to its strengths and go with the most practical storyline – Maeve and Otis find happiness without each other.
