Sex Education season 4 may be more exciting than season 3. Netflix's British coming-of-age series centers on the students and staff of Moordale Secondary School as they navigate their respective personal relationships. While the show started with three clear main leads: Otis (Asa Butterfield), Maeve (Emma Mackey), and Eric (Ncuti Gatwa), it has evolved to be an ensemble as it also gave other characters their respective arcs.
It does seem like the show will be going back to basics when it returns for its new year. As disappointing as it is learning about Sex Education season 4's smaller cast with a string of actors already confirming their non-involvement, this may be a great thing for the show overall. It allows Netflix to streamline its storytelling, putting the much-needed focus on its biggest plotlines. In fact, Sex Education season 4 may actually be more exciting than its predecessor, based on what's known about it thus far.
Just because Sex Education season 4 suffered many cast departures, it doesn't mean that the show is getting smaller. In fact, it appears to be the most ambitious outing for the coming-of-age project thus far. With Moordale Secondary School now sold, the remaining students are forced to find other academic alternatives, leading to Otis and Eric finding themselves in a new school, Cavendish Sixth Form College, where they are subjected to new adventures, immediately already making Sex Education season 4 intriguing. Meanwhile, Maeve is doing her own thing in the U.S. Despite being physically separated, she and Otis are somehow together, and it's curious how they will make their long-distance set-up work. For context, season 3's primary focus was how Sex Education season 2's divisive finale will be resolved after Isaac (George Robinson) deleted Otis' love confession to Maeve, yet pulling the pair apart once again. Now, it feels like the show is breaking new ground; it's shifting its focus back on its main three leads, but also offering something fresh to its audience. It may even set up Sex Education's potential nearing ending.
Will Sex Education Season 4 Be The Final Season?
Sex Education season 3 set up season 4, it has the opportunity to come up with a satisfying send-off.
Whether or not Netflix decides to end Sex Education with season 4 is unknown at this point. The streamer is notoriously secretive about their viewership, making it difficult to predict the lifespan of a show. If Netflix decides to wrap things up with the coming-of-age show, however, at least it has the chance to maintain its high standard of storytelling while also making sure that its most important plot lines are tied up properly.
