The article contains major SPOILERS for Sex/Life season 2Sex/Life star Adam Demos explains why his character, Brad, has a smaller role in season 2. Making its Netflix debut on March 2, the new installment of the steamy drama continues to follow the character of Billie Connelly (Sarah Shahi), her best friend Sasha Snow (Margaret Odette), and her tumultuous relationships. In particular, Sex/Life season 2 adds to Billie's husband Cooper (Mike Vogel) and Brad by introducing Majid (Darius Homayoun) who becomes Billie's new love interest.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Demos was asked about Brad's scaled-back presence in Sex/Life season 2. In response, the actor begins by saying that question is better suited to a series creator. But as he elaborates, Demos explains that the audience can't fully buy into the relationship between Billie and Majid if Brad is a constant presence. Check out his quote below:
That’s more of a creator’s and writer’s question to answer, I think, just because those are the genius minds that come up with this stuff. But I think, maybe, in order to allow the Billie and Majid storyline, for you to buy into it, maybe Brad can’t always be there as much. But yeah, I’m not too sure. It’s nice to be missed, if people do miss Brad. But I did understand that in order for these storylines to work, you have to allow them to take their own form and have a life of their own. When you’re reading the scripts and knowing that you come full circle and they end up together, it wasn’t too bad to go through.
What's Next For Sex/Life Season 3?
Even though Brad has a smaller role in Sex/Life season 2, things worked out between him and Billie. By the time the finale came around, the two reunited and professed their love for one another. This happened at Sasha's wedding after they ended their other relationships. Brad and Billie get married in the final scene, with Billie revealing at the altar that she's pregnant. It's a big step for the character, who previously suffered a miscarriage.
Sex/Life has yet to be renewed for season 3, but it already looks to be a hit for Netflix. The second installment has the number two slot on the streaming service's English-language series charts. All told, according to Netflix, it's been watched 43.89 million hours in the first few days after it debuted. If those numbers hold, it's easy to see that the drama series will be confirmed for more episodes. The big question is how will the show handle Billie and Brad's happiness.
One possibility could be that another obstacle, a new character, is brought in to essentially function as an obstacle for the central duo. The show could even surprise audiences by suggesting that Billie and Brad will always love each other but may not end up in a traditional relationship or any kind of relationship at all. As more news comes out about Sex/Life, a clearer picture will emerge about where the story might go next.
