Now that DC fans have seen the first few photos from Man of Steel. These new photos show some items in the background that Man of Steel fans will undoubtedly recognize.

In a plot straight out of DC Comics, Shazam! tells the story of 14-year-old Billy Batson (Asher Angel), who happens to have extraordinary power. When he yells out the word "Shazam!" he turns into an adult superhero (Zachary Levi), thanks to powers bestowed upon him by an ancient wizard. But that adult superhero, known as Shazam, is still a kid inside, so he chooses to use his powers to do what any kid would do: have a lot of fun. But it's not all fun and games, because soon, Shazam will have to face the evil forces of Dr. Thaddeus Sivana.

It turns out, Billy is also a bit of a Superman fanboy. A DC fan shared portions of the recently revealed first Shazam! image of Billy Batson, highlighting the Superman merchandise, including a few items that reference the Man of Steel film, such as a Time Magazine cover of the events from that movie. In response, Shazam! director David F. Sandberg posted a close-up of the magazine cover.

Look closer, though, and there's also a Superman hat. To the right of it is a copy of the Daily Planet with the headline "Superman is Back," referencing events from Justice League.

Warner Bros. hopes that Shazam! will usher in a new era of its cinematic universe. The company has even referred to it as "the next step in the evolution of the DC brand." Shazam is a new kind of superhero for DC's film endeavors, mainly because he eagerly steps into the role of hero. Previous DC live-action movies featured heroes who are more reluctant to step into the limelight. It's a lighter kind of movie for DC, something that should appeal more to families.

Although fans initially hoped to see Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Black Adam in the movie, DC recently confirmed the villain would not turn up. Instead, Black Adam will get his own movie before potentially appearing in a Shazam! sequel. Shazam! is shaping up to be the kind of DC movie fans have wanted to see all along. With all the dark stories surrounding the unofficially titled DC Extended Universe, fans may find it nice to have a lighter and more fun movie about a superhero who enjoys what he does.
