Warning: Spoilers for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law episode 2
The computer screen in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law episode 2 was littered with MCU Easter eggs. As a whole, the show has already offered more than its fair share of Marvel references. Interestingly, a handful of them was packed into a single shot.
For better or worse, She-Hulk's Disney+ show has contributed much to MCU canon by addressing major characters that Marvel’s world. In addition to expanding the Hulk’s corner of the MCU by revisiting Abomination and seemingly setting up a Planet Hulk storyline, She-Hulk hasn’t hesitated to touch on other characters as well, such as Captain America and Iron Man. It even offered a controversial reveal about Steve Rogers’ past in the series premiere and brought up an old question about how Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye keeps up with his arrows. Based on what it’s already done, more of the same is sure to come as Jen gets deeper into the world of superheroes and villains in her Phase 4 series.
A number of noteworthy references were made in one scene alone in She-Hulk episode 2. During a talk with Nikki, Jen was seen with her laptop. A quick look at the computer screen revealed a number of headlines with interesting connections. Here’s what they are and what they could mean for the MCU.
Avengers
One of the tabs on the website Jen was visiting in She-Hulk episode 2 was simply labeled “Avengers”. Exactly what it pertains to it isn’t clear, but it’s not surprising that Marvel didn’t provide any specific details. So far, the MCU has been careful to avoid any meaningful reveals about the state of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes after Avengers: Endgame. There’s sure to be an Avengers team on hand in the MCU in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, but whether or not they’re still active remains to be seen. At least for now, it can be assumed that the Avengers are defunct.
Find Ant-Man
Phase 4 continued its obsession with Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang in She-Hulk episode 2. One of the other tabs was “Find Ant-Man”, which suggests it had images where people could attempt to spot the minuscule superhero. She-Hulk’s Ant-Man nod is the latest in a series of references to the character, with Ms. Marvel being the show that mentioned him the most. With real-life fans, Ant-Man doesn’t share the same level of popularity enjoyed by Captain America and Iron Man, but he’s clearly a household name in the MCU. His fame could even be a factor when the character returns to the big screen to fight Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Norse Mythology
The “Norse Mythology” tab represents the public’s interest in the gods. It’s not hard to imagine why Norse myths would be relevant, especially since the Asgardians now have their own society on Earth. Following its introduction in Avengers: Endgame, New Asgard was explored a bit deeper in Thor: Love and Thunder, which confirmed that the city has become a tourist attraction and a separate government entity. Even though it wasn’t that long ago that the existence of the Asgardians was a secret to humanity, the Norse gods have since become an accepted part of civilization.
She-Hulk Comic
Next to the headline at the top of the web page is a QR code. Scanning it gives the viewer a digital copy of She-Hulk #1. Published in 2004, the comic is tied directly to the story for She-Hulk episode 2. In the comic, Holden Holliway managed to get She-Hulk fired, only to give her a job at his own firm just a few days later. The exact same scenario playing out in the episode perfectly explains the She-Hulk #1 Easter egg. It’s also not the only time She-Hulk has done this with a QR code. There was another one in the first episode for The Savage She-Hulk #1, the landmark issue that marked Jennifer Walters’ comic debut in 1979.
Iron Man Three’s
An ad on the side of the screen featured an unexpected callback to Iron Man 3. The ment was for Iron Man Three’s, which is apparently a new kind of shoe in the MCU. Whether or not it has any association with Stark’s company wasn’t specified.
Tiamut’s Death In Marvel’s Eternals Movie
In Eternals, disaster struck when Tiamut – a member of the Celestials partially emerged from the ocean. The Eternals successfully stopped the Emergence from becoming complete, but didn’t exactly get rid of the evidence. The conflict ended with a large portion of the dead Celestial’s body left frozen in the Indian Ocean. Given the scale of such an event, it would have made sense for Tiamut's death to be addressed in one of the MCU shows or movies that followed, but the matter was never discussed – until now. The headline, “Why there is a giant statue of a man sticking out of the ocean” proves that people outside of Eternals did in fact take notice of what happened to Tiamut.
Possible Wolverine Tease
Most of the Easter eggs on the computer screen in She-Hulk episode 2 were ittedly inconsequential, but one in particular has massive implications. One eye-catching headline reads, “Man fights with metal claws in bar brawl”. Theoretically, the person mentioned in the headline could be any number of Marvel Comics heroes and villains, including Nighthawk of the Defenders, Sabertooth, Puma, and more. But the one that stands out above them all is none other than Wolverine, who is without question the most high-profile comic character who fits that description. Not only does Wolverine fight with claws, but getting into bar fights is exactly what people expect from any live-action take on the character. After all, that’s the sort of trouble that Wolverine has a knack for, both in the comic books and in Fox’s movies.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’s apparent Wolverine tease isn’t confirmation of his existence in the MCU, but it’s the closest the MCU has ever come to directly acknowledging him. Slowly but surely, the MCU has been inching toward a point where it can introduce its own interpretation of the iconic hero. It took a huge first step when it introduced the X-Men via the multiverse in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and then went further by making mutants MCU canon in the Ms. Marvel finale. When it'll get around to officially introducing the first member of Earth-616’s X-Men team is hard to say, but it sounds like at least one of them is already running loose in the MCU.
