Masters of the Universe share. Swift Wind is She-Ra’s trusted steed, fulfilling the same role Battle Cat plays for He-Man, and in 2014’s He-Man and the Masters of the Universe #15, first published by DC Comics, fans see how the two met for the first time. While the story begins in tragedy, it ultimately leads to the emergence of two heroes.
She-Ra: Princess of Power was a spinoff of the wildly popular He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. She-Ra was Adora, long-lost twin sister of Prince Adam, AKA He-Man. As an infant, Adora was abducted by Hordak, who took her to Etheria, where he raised her to be a general in his army. When he ordered her to invade Eternia, she learned of her true origin. Turning on Hordak, Adora was given the Sword of Protection, which transformed her into She-Ra. She-Ra had a number of allies in her struggle, including the flying unicorn Swift Wind.
How She-Ra's Swift Wind Got His Name
In He-Man and the Masters of the Universe #15, written by Dan Abnett and drawn by Pop Mhan. Hordak has established a Fright Zone on Eternia, from which he will absorb souls to grow his power. In addition to people, Hordak has abducted animals, including a group of unicorns, one of which is the future Swift Wind. Adora, who has not yet assumed the role of She-Ra, sees Swift Wind in his cage as she and He-Man try to infiltrate the Fright Zone. Angered over what he has seen, He-Man liberates the Fright Zone’s prisoners. Adora personally frees Swift Wind, and in the process gives him his name, telling him to take to the swift winds. As she watches him recede into the distance, Hordak retaliates, causing the ground under Adora and He-Man to open. As they plummet to an inevitable death, Swift Wind returns, swooping down and saving both of them.
Swift Wind Represents the Birth of a Hero
When Adora first encountered Swift Wind in the Fright Zone’s pens, both were hurt and broken. Swift Wind had been ripped from his family and enslaved in the Fright Zone, where his soul would eventually be consumed by Hordak. Likewise, Adora had suffered unspeakable trauma at Hordak’s hands, taken from her birth parents and brainwashed to hate them. When Adora came to Eternia and saw her heritage for the first time, it triggered an existential crisis that led her to forsake Hordak and embrace the side of good. Liberating Swift Wind from Hordak’s clutches was perhaps the first truly altruistic act Adora ever performed, and it not only gave birth to a great friendship, but two heroes as well.
The bond between these two Masters of the Universe is a strong one, born in tragedy. Swift Wind is one of She-Ra’s best friends and closest allies, and their origins are linked. Freeing Swift Wind represented a major step forward in Adora’s development as a hero, and it set her down the path to becoming She-Ra.
