She-Hulk: Attorney at Law director, Kat Coiro, discussed the differences between Daredevil and She-Hulk's fighting styles. The legal-drama and comedy show revolves around the titular character Jennifer Walters, and her journey as a lawyer specializing in cases that are superhuman-oriented. She attempts to pursue her career goals and navigate life whilst also harnessing, as well as often dismissing, the notorious superpowers d with being an all-green, 6-foot-7-inch Hulk.
Charlie Cox reprises his role as Daredevil for the show, and his entrance and subsequent changes to the character were met with a divisive reaction from audiences. He made his first appearance in the penultimate episode of season 1 and was extremely prominent throughout it. Notably, the way in which he fights has shifted from realistic movements and physicality to a manner that matches the comic books, which is entirely fitting for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. His lack of superpowers was somewhat dismissed through the complex nature and outcome of his action sequences.
ScreenRant sat down with the director of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Kat Coiro, who explained the differences in Marvel heroes Daredevil and She-Hulk's fighting styles. She elaborated that Daredevil is versatile, skilled, and experienced, yet flawed in the sense that he is still human. Albeit his mortal weaknesses, he values training and refines his skill set, whereas She-Hulk harnesses her superhuman strength in a rather jocular manner, showing a blithe disregard for it even in her brief training with Bruce. Coiro further elaborates that these elements are what spark chemistry between the duo and creates harmony in the sense that they compliment each other.
Daredevil is so finely tuned. He has been fighting for so long. He is an expert stuntman, as Charlie has done his show for so long. But he is very human, and he doesn't have superpowers. And when we had this little moment where they jumped out of the building, it was fun. We had Daredevil hold onto She-Hulk's arm because he's just a man. And then she has these superhuman powers, but she's never honed them. The most she's ever done is her little training montage with Bruce, which she did not take seriously. She's very much more like, "smash the wall, throw some people around." And so it's fun. I think that chemistry makes them this odd couple who are obviously meant for each other.
Will Daredevil's New MCU Show Change His Fighting Style?
From an all red and black suit to a striking yellow, Daredevil has undergone immense change upon his entrance into She-Hulk: Attorney of Law. Daredevil's Netflix show revolves around torturous violence, cynicism, and gory deaths as well as injuries. The fighting sequences are comprised of graphic visuals, with Matt Murdock in the disguise of a notorious vigilante, Daredevil himself, as the bearer of gruesome punishment and subsequent justice. He maintained a rather vicious and blunt fighting style as he ventured to eliminate insidious threats and crime on the streets. Although his refined skill and experience are evident in She-Hulk, it is undeniably approached in a much more light-hearted tone. He performed gymnastics and stunts that were true to the comics, which were made possible by additional CGI in his action sequences.
Daredevil's inclusivity within She-Hulk: Attorney of Law has paved way for audiences to see the character in a more buoyant mood and eased demeanor, as Charlie Cox knew this adaptation would best suit the new MCU show. The show also highlights his fundamental weaknesses as a human lacking superpowers and evidenced by him holding onto She-Hulk as they jumped out of a building. Only time will tell how the relationship and chemistry between Daredevil and She-Hulk will fare out, perhaps in a possible MCU return for She-Hulk in the Daredevil Reboot.
