Shotgun Wedding has been released on Amazon Prime, boasting an impressive cast of characters. Originally meant for a theatrical release, Shotgun Wedding brings Jennifer Lopez back to the screen in what initially seems to be a rom-com: destination wedding, monster mother-in-law, and pre-wedding jitters. However, director Jason Moore takes the romance and replaces it with chaotic action, as the entire wedding party is taken hostage by pirates and the soon-to-be newlyweds need to save them.

Jennifer Lopez as Darcy Rivera
Jennifer Lopez stars as bride-to-be Darcy Rivera in Shotgun Wedding. Despite being madly in love with fiancée Tom, Darcy gets cold feet before the wedding and doubts their relationship. However, before she has time to act, Darcy has to work with Tom to try and save their wedding party from the pirates. Jennifer Lopez is widely known for her singing career, but J-Lo is also no stranger to rom-coms with credits such as Maid in Manhattan and The Backup Plan. Not restricted to rom-coms, Lopez also stars in Selena in the 1997 movie of the same name.
Josh Duhamel as Tom Fowler
Josh Duhamel plays the groom-to-be Tom Fowler in Shotgun Wedding, and Tom is more of a groomzilla than he realizes. Tom is so determined for everything at his wedding to be perfect for Darcy that he does not notice her doubts about marrying him. Tom’s wedding efforts seem futile once the pirates attack, and he has to save the wedding party as well as his relationship with Darcy. Duhamel is best known for his role as Colonel William Lennox in the Safe Haven and, more recently, Blackout.
Jennifer Coolidge as Carol Fowler
Jennifer Coolidge is in her element as Tom’s mother Carol Fowler. Carol’s social-awkwardness and complete obliviousness to how she third-wheels Tom and Darcy’s relationship provides many hilarious moments. American Pie.
Lenny Kravitz as Sean Hawkins
Lenny Kravitz brings more drama and chaos to the turbulent wedding as Sean Hawkins, Darcy’s ex-fiancée. Sean seems like the perfect ex and seems almost too good to be true, which he is, as he consistently causes issues for Darcy and Tom. Kravitz is best known for his music but is no stranger to the screen as he has starred in Selma.
Sônia Braga as Renata Ortiz
No rom-com is complete without the mother of the bride dealing with her ex-husband’s new girlfriend, and Sônia Braga plays this role perfectly as Renata Ortiz. Renata is Darcy’s mother and, quite the opposite to Coolidge’s character, is a straight-up, no-nonsense mother. Renata’s personality perfectly goes against her ex-husband, who she desperately tries to avoid. Braga is best known for playing Spider Woman from Kiss of the Spider Woman and has also had roles in Sex and the City and American Family.
Cheech Martin as Robert Rivera
Counteracting Braga’s character is her ex-husband Cheech Marin’s (part of the The War with Grandpa.
