Shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine offer laughs and heart with a collection of likable characters. Even with all the seasons of Brooklyn Nine-Nine to binge, it's always nice to have several options when in the mood for a lighthearted watch. Luckily, there are plenty of shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine that provide a nice escape now and then.
television. While it was nice to see the show bring its story to a satisfying conclusion, it left a gap with other light and easy comedies needing to fill the gap. These shows can mirror the best qualities of Brooklyn Nine-Nine with wacky humor, a lovable ensemble, a workplace element, or even a light-hearted look at solving crimes. While Brooklyn Nine-Nine was special in its own way, these comedies provide some great alternatives.

Even animated series can capture the kind of charm and humor that made Brooklyn Nine-Nine so popular. Bob's Burgers follows the Belcher family as they manage their small burger t in New Jersey. The family is full of quirks and an occasional reckless idea, but even through their many misadventures, there is a genuine love there that keeps them together. While animated series like The Simpsons and Family Guy are also popular, they rarely have the same mix of laughs and warmth as Bob's Burgers.
Though it flew under the radar for a while, it gradually gained recognition and won the Emmy Outstanding Animated Program in 2014 and 2017. This series mostly cares about the relationship between the family and how they can do better by working together, which is an important theme in shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine. While it is a real family, not a work family, the same sense of closeness and camaraderie remains true between the two comedic shows.
24 30 Rock (2004-2012)
A Spoof Based On Saturday Night Live

Your comment has not been saved
Tina Fey's absurdist comedy series follows Liz Lemon, the head writer of a fictional live sketch comedy show operating out of 30 Rockefeller Plaza, which is where the show derives its name. Loosely based on Fey's experiences as a writer on Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock ran for seven seasons with a ing cast that included Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan, Jane Krakowski, and Jack McBrayer.
- Seasons
- 7
The relationship between Peralta and Captain Holt is very much at the center of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and it is an entertainingly combative relationship seen in other series. 30 Rock takes a humorous look behind the scenes of a late-night sketch comedy show with Tina Fey as the neurotic show creator and Alec Baldwin as the conservative network executive she has to report to. Their dynamic makes for some of the funniest interactions on the show while also being charming.

Brooklyn 99 Ending Explained: What Happens To Everyone Next
The ending of Brooklyn 99 is full of twists and turns, double-crosses and betrayals. What exactly happened in the hit sitcom's series finale?
The series began as a fun show business comedy only to quickly embrace an absurd sense of humor that made it one of the funniest series on television. Untethered from reality, 30 Rock had wall-to-wall jokes, earning three Emmys for Outstanding Comedy Series. The show has a strong connection to the humor of shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine, as they are both mostly tethered to one location and focus on the people working there, often driving each other mad.
23 Archer (2009-2023)
An Adult Animated Spy Series

Archer is an animated sitcom following the agents and staff of ISIS (International Secret Intelligence Service). Sterling Archer (H. Jon Benjamin) is the show's narcissistic protagonist and ISIS's star agent, working under his mother Malory (Jessica Walter), and alongside agents Lana (Aisha Tyler) and Cyril (Chris Parnell). With a quirky and irreverent sense of humor, Archer spoofs spy stories with the exploits of the colorful characters that make up ISIS.

An animated series that captures a lot of the lighthearted yet exciting fun of Brooklyn Nine-Nine is Archer. Instead of taking a look at the colorful characters of an NYPD precinct, the adult animated comedy focuses on a top-secret spy organization with the titular character as the reckless, mean-spirited, and self-involved top agent. The series also has a lot of connections with Brooklyn Nine-Nine as most of the series has the spy adventures interrupted by wild unexpected moments.
Jake is someone who loves to prank people, and Sterling Archer is the same, albeit on a more cruel, less lovable level.
Though the characters might not be as likable as in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, there is a lot of fun in seeing the behind-the-scenes arguments, melodrama, and antics of the people whose job it is to save the world. Jake is someone who loves to prank people, and Sterling Archer is the same, albeit on a more cruel, less lovable level. At the same time, seeing the differing personalities trying to work together and often failing at it brings a lot of similarities to Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Jury Duty is a comedy/documentary series created for Amazon Freevee that explores the inner workings of the American Judicial system - with a twist. The show follows a unique format where a fake court case is created, with the entire experience controlled from inside and outside of the courtroom, and everyone is in on it except for a single juror. The show explores the fictional case through the perspective of the singular outlying juror.
- Seasons
- 1
- Main Genre
- Comedy
Part reality TV series, part comedy series, Jury Duty is an original and hilarious concept that is pulled off brilliantly. The series is set up as a camera crew getting access to a court case and following the 12 jurors. However, everyone involved in the trial is an actor who knows it is all fake, with only one juror, Ronald, who isn't in on the joke.
What could have seemed like a cruel prank turns into a hilarious comedy, with Ronald being a nice and friendly guy who is trying to make sense of the bizarre trial he finds himself in. While the characters walk a fine line between wacky creations and real people, James Marsden, playing himself as one of the jurors, is the highlight of the show. While the show is very different from Brooklyn Nine-Nine in execution and themes, the gags and jokes land just as hard in both shows and they maintain a similar sense of humor.

The romance between Jake and Amy is one of the most popular aspects of Brooklyn Nine-Nine with their combative banter leading to real feelings over time. While many shows try to capture this kind of dynamic, few have done it as well as Moonlighting. The series stars Cybill Shepherd as a rich socialite who loses everything except for a small detective agency she owns and must work with the laidback detective (Bruce Willis) to turn it into a profitable enterprise.
Shepherd and Willis have electric chemistry together, playing off each other perfectly. It is also another series that combines humor and crime so well with sharply written mysteries accompanied by hilarious jokes throughout. For anyone who was shipping Jake and Amy to finally get together, the best seasons of Moonlighting presented the exact same situation. However, be warned that the show takes a steep dive in quality after Dave and Maddie get together.

When cheerful, optimistic Kimmy Schmidt is rescued from a doomsday cult after spending years underground, she opts not to return home to Indiana and instead decides to try and make it in New York City.
- Seasons
- 4
While Brooklyn Nine-Nine occasionally dealt with serious topics, its humor always allowed for the absurd. That was the approach taken by Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which never felt fully tied down to the real world. Ellie Kemper stars as the titular character, a young woman who escapes an underground bunker where she was held captive for years. With her new freedom and a lot of time to make up for, Kimmy starts her new life in New York City.
The wild premise might sound like more of an intense drama, but Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt keeps this very light. Kimmy is a sweetly innocent yet strong protagonist, and she is surrounded by so many wacky characters that add color to her funny and entertaining journey of self-discovery. The show was nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series in its first season. The humor and touching moments integrated perfectly together and remain very similar to the touching scenes on Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

The Bar Where Everyone Knows Your Name

One of the most well-known American sitcoms of the 1980s and 90s, Cheers is primarily set in Boston at the Cheers bar, and features and ensemble cast that includes Ted Danson, Shelley Long, Rhea Pearlman, Kelsey Grammer, and George Wendt. Danson's Sam Malone acts as the bar's proprietor, and episodes depict the lives of Cheers' staff and patrons during the bar's operating hours. The series ran for 11 seasons and gave rise to popular spin-off shows such as Frasier.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is the type of sitcom with a simple premise that relies on its lovable ensemble to work. All shows of this kind seem to be trying to emulate how well it was done in Cheers. It uses the simple setting of a Boston bar and follows the people who work there as well as the regular patrons. The show does an amazing job of establishing these characters so quickly, from the womanizing owner Sam Malone to the hot-tempered bartender Carla to the know-it-all mailman Cliff.
Before long, the show feels like hanging out with a bunch of good friends. Its legacy further grew with the Cheers spinoff sitcom Frasier, which won its own acclaim. It was one of the most popular shows of its day and was nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series for all 11 seasons. The lineage is almost easy to follow as Cheers led to Seinfeld, which led to Friends, which led to The Big Bang Theory, and then the hit that was Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

As endearing as the main characters on Brooklyn Nine-Nine were, the personalities among them often clashed, from Peralta's immaturity to Santiago's straight-laced approach to Gina's complete disinterest. Community also brought a group of very different characters together and made them a family. So many of the characters on Community are selfish, narrow-minded, and nefarious people, but hanging out with them is so much fun. Both shows showed that these differing personalities can still somehow mesh.
Through all the pop-culture references and wild adventures, the show allows these characters to gradually grow into better people and form a community of their own. The inventive episodes, like the infamous paintball adventures, are endlessly enjoyable and cemented Community's cult status among audiences. That popularity has grown to make the promise of a Community movie seemingly come true.

- Seasons

Ted Lasso immediately cemented itself as one of the most lighthearted shows on television. It is the fish-out-of-water story of an American football coach hired to coach a professional soccer team in England. The silly premise makes way for a show about positivity, encouragement, and happiness. Like Brooklyn Nine-Nine, it's an easy watch that makes people smile while still tackling some important issues when it can. Both shows also have a strong sense of making things work around strange and awkward situations.

10 Most Surprising Moments In Ted Lasso's 3 Seasons
Ted Lasso is a show that takes its audience on an emotional rollercoaster, with incredible characters, moving stories, and a number of surprises.
Ted is a lovable and goofy character, and it is a joy to see the effect his personality has on the fun characters around him. While the later seasons were more controversial than the lighthearted first season, Ted Lasso's impact and popularity must be acknowledged. The show became the most nominated first-season comedy in Emmy Award history while also winning Outstanding Comedy Series in that acclaimed first year.
16 Schitt's Creek (2015-2020)
A Family Loses Their Money & Moves To A Town They Previously Bought As A Joke

Your comment has not been saved
Schitt's Creek is a sitcom series created by and starring Dan and Eugene Levy. When the Rose family's business manager embezzles funds from their fortune, they discover that all of their money is gone except for one last piece of property - a small town called Schitt's Creek that they purchased for fun years ago. Now forced to acclimate to an average, borderline impoverished life, the Rose family will attempt to make due with what they have while trying to revitalize the town.
- Seasons
- 6
One of the greatest television success stories in recent memory, Schitt's Creek started as a small Canadian sitcom that eventually made Emmy history in its final season. It is the story of a rich and entitled family that loses everything and is forced to relocate to the titular rural town. The Schitt's Creek characters were endlessly hilarious as they navigated their very different new reality.
It was also rewarding to see how they evolve over the course of the series and become better people. Seeing the similar way that the precinct of Brooklyn Nine-Nine gradually became bigger parts of each other's lives and were with each other through life-changing moments added to the show's heartwarming feel. The characters on Schitt's Creek grew and learned to be better, more likable people and while Brooklyn Nine-Nine characters were beloved from the start, both shows maintain the silly humor.
