Jared Keeso's smash-hit comedy series Season 5 of Shoresy has already been confirmed, and through four seasons the show's quality has not flinched for even one episode.

Many critics and of the public would agree that, with the advent of streaming platforms, we are now in the Golden Age of Television. With so many different platforms on which stories can be told, some of the best television comedies ever have finally gotten a chance to shine, yet gone completely under the radar due to the plethora of choices for the average viewer. At the ending of season 4 of Shoresy, it's clear the beloved show has a much smaller audience than it deserves, but it's far from the only high-quality modern comedy out there.

Shoresy is a direct spin-off from the Canadian comedy Letterkenny, a truly unique show that follows several distinct groups of people in a small farm town in Northern Ontario. Just as he does for Shoresy, creator Jared Keeso writes and stars as Wayne, a member of the "Hicks" group in Letterkenny. The show celebrates Canadian culture but frames it around simplistic, typically disconnected story lines that change from episode to episode. The stakes are never high, the jokes are non-stop, and on top of everything, the show does a great job with representation, particularly when it comes to Indigenous Canadians.

From Will Ferrell and award-winning director, writer, and producer Adam McKay, Eastbound & Down follows the exploits of a washed-up former baseball pitcher who bottoms out of the major leagues and is forced to return to his hometown as a substitute gym teacher. Over the show's four seasons, Kenny Powers attempts multiple comebacks as a pitcher, and his adventures take him all the way down to Mexico for a time. Like Shoresy, the show deals heavily in profane humor, and while its style might not be for everyone, it's ed fondly by those who embrace inappropriate adult comedy.

Just like Shoresy, FX's The League deals in insult humor routinely, and has a number of running jokes that carry over from season to season. The show follows the of a fantasy football league who have been friends since high school, and chronicles their lives as they navigate their jobs, families, and the annoyances of the modern world, all while keeping fantasy football as their top priority. The League is essentially a cult classic at this point, although it did have a solid seven-season run loaded with famous football-related guest stars, not unlike Shoresy's real-life hockey players and pundits.

Trailer Park Boys is a true cult classic, as in the two decades since its first arrival it has spawned a culture of its own with a devoted fan base on both sides of the Canadian border. The low-budget crime comedy debuted in 2001 as a half-hour mockumentary series, running until 2007 before being resurrected on Netflix for five more seasons in 2014. Since its debut, there have been a number of movies and specials that expanded on the adventures of Ricky, Julian, and Bubbles, three extremely low-rent criminals living in a trailer park in Nova Scotia.

Many of Trailer Park Boys' most popular moments are reportedly unscripted, and are a by-product of the cast's commitment to their characters.

In addition to being a Canadian television show that celebrates Canadian culture just as Shoresy does, Trailer Park Boys is loaded with long-standing, repeated gags that give the show its personality. The central characters are non-violent criminals, but between all the jokes and the bluster there is an underlying heart to the show, even if you have to dig a little deeper to get to it.

6 Brockmire

Hank Azaria's Show About An Inappropriate Baseball Announcer

Jules, Jim, and Charles in Brockmire

The criminally-underrated sitcom Brockmire only aired on IFC, which is the main reason why it doesn't get its flowers with the public. Starring Hank Azaria and, surprisingly, J.K. Simmons, the show follows a former MLB announcer who tries to resurrect his career 10 years after a very public meltdown. There are plenty of parallels between Azaria's Brockmire and Shoresy himself, as washed-up veterans who can't let go of the past, and the inappropriate humor also matches it. Brockmire is an outstanding comedy that earned Azaria Critics' Choice Television Award nominations, and it's a great watch for baseball fans in particular.

Blue Mountain State was among the raunchiest comedies around when it debuted on the former Spike network in 2010. It follows of a fictional college football team as they enjoy the best and worst stereotypical aspects of American college life, like hazing, binge-drinking, and non-stop partying. It notably kick-started the career of Alan Ritchson (Reacher, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) as the team's captain, Thad Castle.

While the wildly inappropriate humor and subject matter earned the TV-MA designation in every episode, the show developed a significant cult following once it arrived on Netflix. It doesn't hold much water with critics, as the benchmark show that embodied the toxic masculinity of the now-dead Spike network. However, it's popular enough with the fan base that a revival of the show was announced in 2024, and for those who enjoy the crude humor of high school/college sex comedies, it's still entertaining 14 years after it ended.

Kim's Convenience is another Canadian sitcom that built a small but ionate fan base during its five-season run from 2016-2021. The witty, clever comedy follows a Korean family as they run a convenience store in the massive city of Toronto, and deals heavily with the comical clash between hard-working, traditional parents and their free-spirited 20-something son and daughter.

Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Last Breath) notably stars as son Jung Kim, although the entire main cast and the show itself were showered with award nominations during its run. It matches Shoresy in the balance between comedy and heart, with family love substituting in for Shoresy's commitment to teammates and friendship.

GLOW was one of Netflix's true sleeper hits of the 2010s, a great comedy-drama that infused laugh-out-loud gags with stunning depth and character development. Set mostly in Southern California in the 1980s, GLOW follows a fictionalized version of the real "Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling" professional wrestling circuit as they develop their in-ring characters and navigate their personal lives, which sometimes overlap. While it's extra-fun for those familiar with professional wrestling, the human stories make it completely unnecessary to have any wrestling knowledge to enjoy.

Starring Alison Brie and Betty Gilpin as the top face and top heel in GLOW, the show centers on their rivalry and relationship in and out of the ring. Between the accurate depiction of the 1980s and the stellar work of its cast, critics and audiences adored GLOW during its run, and it collected plenty of awards, including 10 Primetime Emmy nominations during its run. Unfortunately, the planned fourth season of the show never aired, as it was a casualty of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the three seasons that are on Netflix are an enjoyable watch for any comedy fan.

There is nothing underrated about Ted Lasso, which is one of the most popular TV comedies of the century. Starring Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, and a tremendous ensemble cast, Ted Lasso follows an American college football coach who finds himself at the wheel of an English soccer team with only his unflappable positive attitude as an aid. Its first season received 20 Primetime Emmy nominations, making it the most-nominated freshman comedy of all time, and for good reason. Like Shoresy, the show has been universally celebrated for balancing riotous laughs with feel-good heart.

Reservation Dogs is among the most critically-acclaimed shows on this list, as it was named as one of the top ten TV shows of 2021, 2022, and 2023 by the American Film Institute per Variety. Noteworthy for its perspective, born from almost everyone working on the show being an Indigenous North American, the show follows Indigenous teenagers in the Muscogee Nation of rural Oklahoma as they wrestle with the desire to fit in while also living life free.

Reservation Dogs deserves a far larger audience, as its blend of comedy and drama makes it appealing to any viewer who appreciates quality story-telling and unique perspectives on the world.

The show deals with some legitimately heavy themes and subject matter, but never departs too far from the comedy that makes it such a well-rounded show. Shoresy has notably been celebrated for its representation of Indigenous North Americans, giving it another positive tie to Reservation Dogs. This show in particular deserves a far larger audience, as its blend of comedy and drama makes it appealing to any viewer who appreciates quality story-telling and unique perspectives on the world.
