Warning: There are spoilers ahead for Shrinking season 2, episode 3.Shrinking's cast of characters as he went to see Jimmy (Jason Segel) at work and apologized for what he had done.

Jimmy later told Alice about Louis coming to see him. She seemed to take this better than her father did, compared to Jimmy losing control and angrily screaming during Louis' unexpected visit. The end of episode 2 proved that Alice was more shaken than she let Jimmy realize, as she drove to Louis' house and parked outside for hours, clearly fixated on Louis and unsure of what to do with the pain he had reignited. This dilemma continues to be at the heart of Shrinking season 2's story in two pivotal Alice scenes.

Alice Confronts Her Mother's Killer, Louis

The Confrontation Does Not Go The Way She Expected

Alice goes to the coffee shop where Louis works, intending to confront him about how his actions led to her mother's death. When she goes there, Alice wears her mother's MMA sweatshirt, which Tia can be seen wearing in a flashback earlier in the episode. Louis does not know who Alice is at first and simply asks her if she is an MMA fan and compliments her sweatshirt, with Alice sharing that it belongs to her mother, before she snaps at him and reveals why she thought he might recognize her.

Brett Goldstein's Character In Shrinking Season 2 Explained

Brett Goldstein's Shrinking character is introduced in the season 2 premiere, but who is he playing in the popular Apple TV+ comedy series?

While Alice is angry and heartbroken, Louis is apologetic and kind as he takes a break from work to sit and speak with her and explains how sorry he is about what happened. Despite the kindness and vulnerability Louis demonstrates, she does not respond well, as she curses and screams at him before storming out of the coffee shop. It is difficult for her to confront and blame Louis when she can see he is also in immense pain. Alice accidentally leaves her wallet behind, though, which may bring her face-to-face with Louis again in the future.

Alice Kisses Her Best Friend's Boyfriend

This Happens Because Of Her Earlier Scene With Louis

Connor (Gavin Lewis) smiling in Shrinking

When Alice returns home at the end of the episode, she is feeling overwhelmed by her earlier interaction with Louis. She sees her neighbor, Connor (Gavin Lewis), who is dating her best friend, Summer (Rachel Stubington). Connor goes over to Alice when he sees that she is crying and upset, hugs her, and asks what he can do to help. Alice tells him to kiss her, and the episode closes out as Alice kisses her best friend's boyfriend.

Kissing Connor at this moment has nothing to do with any romantic feelings that she has for him and is solely about finding a comforting distraction from the emotions she is wrestling with after seeing Lous.

As revealed in Shrinking season 1, Alice and Connor previously slept together, but Alice has made it clear to him and everyone else, including Summer, that she is not interested in him. Kissing Connor at this moment has nothing to do with any romantic feelings that she has for him, and is solely about finding a comforting distraction from the emotions she is wrestling with after seeing Louis. It was unfortunate that it was Summer's boyfriend who happened to walk by and be a convenient distraction for Alice at that moment.

What Alice's Actions In Episode 3 Mean For The Rest Of Shrinking Season 2

There Is Drama Ahead With Summer

Louis will likely try to return Alice's wallet that she left behind. Now that Alice has actually met the man involved in her mother's car accident and knows what he is like, she may not react to him with as much anger and hatred the next time she sees him. The easy thing would be to hate and blame Louis, but it is difficult to justify this when he is being vulnerable, kind, and trying to help. As challenging as another conversation between them may be, it could help Alice and Louis heal from their trauma.

In addition to playing Louis, Brett Goldstein is one of Shrinking's co-creators, writers, and executive producers.

As for Summer, she will inevitably feel betrayed by Alice, which will lead to significant drama between the two friends. Summer told Alice that her relationship with Connor was one of the best things that had happened to her in a long time. Alice knowing this and then ruining that relationship is incredibly hurtful and will make it difficult to mend her friendship with Summer. Connor and Summer's relationship will likely be over as well, but hopefully, Alice and Summer can still find a way to be friends in Shrinking season 2.
