Jimmy Finally Learned That Alice Has Been In With Louis In Shrinking Season 2, Episode 7
He Finds Out In An Upsetting Way
After helping his patient, Dan (Mike C. Nelson), become more comfortable around strangers, Jimmy feels better than ever, with his "hot streak" of helping patients continue. These positive feelings quickly dissipate when he sees Alice, Brian, and Louis in a restaurant together, laughing and clearly enjoying one another's company. Jimmy does not know about Alice confronting Louis in the coffee shop, let alone that she has become friendly with Louis and forgiven him. To make matters even worse, Jimmy previously did not know about Brian's friendship with Louis either.

Shrinking Season 2 Soundtrack Guide: Every Song From Every Episode
The soundtrack is a vital part of Apple TV+'s Shrinking season 2 as Jimmy, Paul, Gaby, and the rest of the characters navigate new challenges.
By being honest, Alice was able to make up with her best friend, Summer (Rachel Stubington), even after sleeping with her boyfriend, Connor (Gavin Lewis). This helps Alice realize that she also wants to be honest with her father about her spending time with Louis. Before Jimmy unexpectedly sees them through the restaurant window, Alice voices her desire to be honest with Louis and Brian. Louis agrees, while Brian is more hesitant. Unfortunately for Alice, she does not get a chance to break the hard truth now that Jimmy already knows that they are friends.
Why Jimmy Was So Upset At Seeing Alice & Brian With Louis
Jimmy Feels Betrayed By His Daughter And His Best Friend
Jimmy is devastated because he feels as though both his daughter and his best friend betrayed him. As seen by the unorthodox methods he uses with his patients in Shrinking season 1 and season 2, Jimmy is a relatively open-minded person. At the same time, he is unable to be open-minded when it comes to the man he holds responsible for his wife's death. Seeing his daughter and best friend spending time with that man feels like the ultimate betrayal. If Alice and Brian had told Jimmy about what was happening, he likely would not have been fine with it.
Now, Jimmy may feel as though his current relationships with Alice and Brian are not as strong as he thought.
Nevertheless, Alice and Brian's actions feel even more hurtful because they kept their friendship with Louis a secret. After failing to be a good father to Alice in the year after Tia's death, Jimmy seemed to feel that he and Alice's relationship was in a good place, including when they got matching tattoos. Jimmy and Brian also worked through some of their personal issues and strengthened their friendship. Now, Jimmy may feel as though his current relationships with Alice and Brian are not as strong as he thought.
Did Alice & Brian Betray Jimmy By Hanging Out With Louis?
Betrayal Was Never Their Intention
Alice and Brian demonstrate significant emotional maturity through the friendships they have forged with Louis, but Jimmy's feelings of betrayal are still justified. Jimmy had previously spoken to Alice about Louis unexpectedly coming to his office. He likely expected that he and Alice would navigate the Louis situation together. Instead of being a united father and daughter, Alice's massive scene with Louis in season 2, episode 6, sees her finding forgiveness while Jimmy is left alone with his own unresolved feelings.

Jimmy fails to recognize that Alice and Brian are honoring Tia's memory through the forgiveness they extend to Louis and in the joyful friendship they now have with him. In this sense, what Alice and Brian have done is not a betrayal, but this does not negate Jimmy's valid feelings. Jimmy will need to work through those complex emotions regarding Alice, Brian, Louis, and his own unresolved trauma as the second half of Shrinking season 2 continues.
