To hype the show's return in October, the latest news finds Apple TV+ releasing a full trailer for Shrinking season 2. Instead of focusing on the shocking conclusion to season 1, the trailer catches up with Jimmy as he tries to keep his relationships afloat without sinking back into depression. With his daughter, Alice, worried about him and Paul his usual cantankerous self, Jimmy has to find a way to solve his own issues while tackling his patient's cases as well.

The Second Session Begins In October

Shrinking season 2 wasted little time getting the ball rolling, and will return relatively quickly considering the delays of 2023. Apple TV+ has scheduled Shrinking season 2 to begin airing on Wednesday, October 16, and the new season will consist of 12 episodes. As with season 1, the episodes will debut weekly instead of the usual binge-watch model for streaming series.

It's more than likely that all the main cast of the first season will be back for Shrinking season 2. Jason Segel will return as Jimmy Laird, Harrison Ford will return as Dr. Paul Rhoades, and Jessica Williams will return as Gaby, another therapist who works with Jimmy and Paul. The Shrinking season 2 cast will also undoubtedly introduce several new characters in the form of the therapists' clients, though the entire Shrinking season 2 cast is still yet to be confirmed.

One guest star that is confirmed is series co-creator Brett Goldstein, who will play a small role in the season. ing Goldstein is fellow Ted Lasso alumnus Ashley Nicole Black who will also play a role in the season while pulling double duty as a writer. Jimmy's colleagues are brought along for the ride as the therapist turns into a reluctant patient.

In a shocking climax at the end of Shrinking season 1, Jimmy's patient Grace (Heidi Gardner), pushes her abusive boyfriend off a cliff. This could potentially lead to Jimmy losing his job as a therapist, as he earlier jokingly told Grace to "boop" her boyfriend off a cliff, and he could be held responsible, and he also didn't see the signs that Grace was capable of such a thing. However, Shrinking season 2 could go further down the crime route, as Lawrence revealed that in Shrinking season 2, "They’re not gonna be in a courtroom," hinting at some kind of cover-up.

The trailer reveals little about the plot of season 2, but does show that Jimmy's life is somewhat back to normal after the climax of season 1. Instead, all eyes turn to Jimmy's mental state as he begins to slide into depression, which is a lot like his experience following the death of his wife. Alice is worried about her father, and Jimmy's colleagues are brought along for the ride as the therapist turns into a reluctant patient.

Catching up with Jimmy after the events of season 1, the seasoned therapist is beginning to suffer issues of his own, and Alice is worried about her father. Seeking help from his friends and colleagues, Jimmy tries various forms of therapy to little result. Meanwhile, Jimmy's own patients begin to find that they are tasked with soothing their own therapist in his time of need.
