Denis Villeneuve's Oscar-nominated movie has become a global Netflix hit a decade after its release. The Canadian director started his career with four French-language films, including Incendies, which earned an Academy Award nomination for Best International Feature. From there, Villeneuve transitioned into English-language movies with Prisoners and Enemy, but gained further recognition for his sci-fi films Arrival, Blade Runner 2049, Dune, and Dune: Part Two – which earned a total of 28 Oscar nominations and won 11.

On the other hand, Sheridan is the television mogul best known as the creator of the Yellowstone franchise, including its prequels 1883 and 1923, and several other Paramount+ series, such as Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, Lioness, and Landman. However, he has also written several neo-Western films, such as 2016's Hell or High Water, which was nominated for four Oscars, including Best Original Screenplay, and 2017's Wind River, which he also directed. However, Sheridan's screenwriting debut was directed by the visionary Villeneuve and also earned several Oscar nominations.

Sicario has become a global Netflix hit. Written by Taylor Sheridan and directed by Denis Villeneuve, the 2015 crime thriller follows an idealistic FBI agent who is enlisted by a government task force to aid in the escalating drug war at the border between the United States and Mexico. The movie stars Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, Daniel Kaluuya, Victor Garber, Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey Donovan, Raoul Trujillo, and many more as part of its ensemble cast.

Now, a decade after its release, Sheridan and Villeneuve's crime thriller has become a global hit on Netflix. Sicario ranks fifth on Netflix's Global Top 10 movies this week with 4.6 million views and 9.2 million hours viewed. It ranks below Plankton: The Movie, Despicable Me 4, Chaos: The Manson Murders, Venom: The Last Dance and above Runaway Jury, Midnight in the Switchgrass, Despicable Me 3, Minions, and The Boss Baby.

Sicario finished in Netflix's Top 10 movies in only one country this week – the United States.

It Continues To Be A Success

Sheridan and Villeneuve's collaboration was a success upon its release in 2015, with Sicario reviews calling it a tense and gripping thriller that offers much more than just striking action sequences, including exceptional performances from Emily Blunt and Benicio del Toro. It went on to receive Oscar nods for its cinematography, score, and sound. Though Sicario was only a modest box office success, grossing $85 million against its $30 million budget, it was followed by the sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, also written by Sherdian, with a third film, titled Sicario: Capos, currently in development.
