Yuki from A Sign of Affection

This is likely due to scarce source material to adapt, and Ajia-do Animation Works is waiting for the manga to advance some more before engaging in the project once again. The manga releases monthly, which might mean fans would still have to wait a little longer to see Yuki and Itsuomi animated again.

The Manga Puts Yuki in a Tough Position Regarding Her Relationships

Is Itsuomi Reliable Enough for Yuki To Let Herself Fall Completely in Love?

If waiting does not sound like the most exciting idea, reading ahead is always a good choice. A Sign of Affection covers up until chapter 21 of the manga, so to continue the story exactly where the anime left off, one would have to start reading chapter 22. However, though the anime is quite faithful to the manga, there are still some tiny bits and sweet or funny moments that didn’t find its way into animation, so reading the story from the beginning is also encouraged.

The story in the manga further develops the relationship between Yuki and Itsuomi, giving them more space to interact and pushing it forward by pressing Yuki into making an important decision. The anime ends with the revelation of Itsuomi’s past, but there is still a lot to learn about him (and other background characters like Yuki’s family and Emma). An extra spice of drama is also added thanks to Yuki’s childhood friend, Oushi, getting even more involved in the relationship, making the love triangle even more noticeable.

Thanks to its healthy depiction of a budding romance, the interaction with a deaf person, and the depth of the characters’ personalities, A Sign of Affection has been nominated every year since 2022 for Kodansha’s Shojo Manga Award. It’s also available to read on Kodansha’s K Manga app as a simulrelease. The anime series can be watched on Crunchyroll.

In the past, other great shojo romances like Blue Spring Ride and My Little Monster were left with only one anime season, despite the manga being long finished. Let’s hope A Sign of Affection’s popularity will keep it from that fate. In the meantime, there are 22 chapters of the manga to keep up with Yuki and Itsuomi’s sweet tale.
