a massive horror game and Bloober Team is demonstrating how well it knows its audience by unveiling some especially immersive settings. Many players coming to the remake will undoubtedly be familiar with the original release on the PlayStation 2, a system that may have been powerful for the time but still had several technical deficiencies that forced Team Silent to be creative. Much like the first game, Silent Hill 2 used those limitations to make the game spookier, so it's good that some are returning for the remake.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Bloober Team revealed that it's been working on a way to "complete the old-school experience" with a "90s filter" that adds a film grain effect, color correction, and screen adjustments to better emulate the PlayStation 2 version.
The video that accompanied the post certainly looks the part as the setting draws players into the central action on the screen and obscures their surroundings just enough to make them threatening. It's a fantastic addition that demonstrates Bloober Team's understanding of what makes Silent Hill 2 work.

While many Silent Hill 2 fans were initially enthused by the idea of a remake, attitudes began to change when consumers saw the first footage of the game in action. The initial gameplay trailer failed to impress as it demonstrated an over-reliance on combat that looked janky, but not in a way that suited the Silent Hill design philosophy. To its credit, Bloober Team took the and improved upon the experience, releasing more trailers that demonstrated some major improvements.

After of the media went smart changes to the characters and story that result in an overall stronger experience. Whether the game can stick the landing remains to be seen, but hopes are high that Bloober Team can pull off an authentic yet innovative remake.
Silent Hill 2 Remake releases just in time for Halloween, arriving on October 8. The game will be available for PlayStation 5 and PC and with no word on an Xbox release, Series X|S players will just have to hope that a port eventually comes to fruition. As for everyone else, it's nearly time to turn off the HUD, activate the 90s filter, and become immersed in a horror classic.
