A Silent Hill 2 remake is being developed by Bloober Team, and there are some changes that could be made to improve one of the game's endings in particular. Reveals about the remake so far seem to show the Bloober Team is working to make it a faithful recreation of the original Silent Hill 2, but with polished graphics and gameplay. However, some parts of the story can be fixed without drastic changes, needing just a few minor adjustments instead.

Silent Hill as a series has been in a rough place during recent years, especially with the cancelation of Silent Hills after it garnered the interest of players through P.T. However, the series has the chance to make a return with the release of Silent Hill 2 Remake for PS5. While Bloober Team might not be following the current trend of remakes drastically changing certain elements, there are still adjustments that could improve Silent Hill 2 without sacrificing the essence of the game.

The Rebirth Ending In Silent Hill 2

James standing on a pier in the fog in Silent Hill 2 Remake

Unlike the three primary endings of Silent Hill 2, Leave, Maria, and In Water, Rebirth is an ending only available in Silent Hill 2 HD, and can't be achieved on a first playthrough. However, on a New Game Plus playthrough, players who collect the White Chrism, Book of Memories, Obsidian Goblet, and Book of Crimson Ceremony are able to earn the Rebirth ending in which James attempts to revive Mary. But in the Silent Hill 2 Remake, Bloober Team can make this secret ending more accessible by letting players earn it without New Game Plus.

Bloober Team Can Emphasize Silent Hill's History

of The Order, a cult from Silent Hill, and its seal, the Halo of the Sun.

Silent Hill, the town, is shown as home to cultists several times throughout the series. While the cult has little involvement in the plot of Silent Hill 2, Bloober Team can emphasize its influence through the Rebirth ending which has James attempt to use cult rituals to revive Mary. Since the cult in Silent Hill has made multiple attempts to resurrect their god, it sets a precedent for the Rebirth ending as James tries to use their methods on his dead wife.

If the rumors are true and Bloober Team adds endings to Silent Hill 2, then it should also expand on the existing endings. Given the psychological horror element and history of Silent Hill, the Rebirth ending might be the most fitting conclusion for James's story and the guilt he feels. There's no need for the Rebirth ending to be limited to New Game Plus, and the world of Silent Hill makes it relevant to James' story, so it should be made into one of the main endings in Silent Hill 2 Remake.
