As fans continue to puzzle over Silent Hill F's latest gameplay footage, the game's rating suggests the wait for answers shouldn't be much longer. Announced three years ago, Konami held its cards close to the chest when it came to the next Silent Hill game but following the recent trailer, players have more questions than ever before. With an original setting that seems entirely separate from the previous games, there's a great deal of excitement building around Silent Hill F, especially after the success of the Silent Hill 2 remake.

Per the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), Silent Hill F has officially been rated 17+, suggesting that a release date may be sooner rather than later. It's not unprecedented for age restrictions to be finalized in the months building up to launch and while it's certainly not confirmation that Konami has a date locked in, it does imply that it could be in the near future. Having said that, schedules can be adjusted so fans shouldn't take it as a definite until such a time as the developer makes it official.

Silent Hill F's ESRB Rating Sounds Very Positive

A Return For Tense, Brutal Combat

As can be expected from a Silent Hill game, the ESRB rating for F suggests that players will be in for a tough experience filled with haunting creatures and chaotic combat. The official description notes that protagonist Shimizu Hinako will be able to use a variety of weapons like "axes, crowbars, knives, and spears" to kill otherworldly enemies but, unlike other Silent Hill games, there's no mention of firearms. The rating also hints at several grisly scenes, describing some of the ways enemies can kill Shimizu.

Aside from the gruesome moments spotlighted by the ESRB, the actual game sounds like what one expects from Silent Hill. Players will be able to explore Ebisugaoka, a Japanese town that's been consumed by a mysterious fog that seemingly transforms the citizens into horrifying nightmares. Aside from killing these monsters, players will also need to solve a variety of puzzles to progress, a welcome respite from the abominations stalking the alleys.
