While fans continue to mourn the loss of Silent Hill: The Short Message can possibly recapture the lost project's success. P.T. was released in 2014 as a secret demo for Hideo Kojima's Silent Hills, but the title was removed from the PlayStation Store following Kojima's departure from Konami. The Silent Hill series has been in hiatus ever since, but The Short Message may recreate what made P.T. so incredible.
The Silent Hill Transmission stream, held by Konami in October 2022, revealed a number of new Silent Hill games coming in 2023 and beyond. These projects include a remake of Silent Hill 2, with Bloober Team recreating the beloved survival horror game on modern hardware. The showcase also teased Silent Hill F, a fascinating new installment which will be set in 1960s Japan rather than the franchise's titular American town. Silent Hill: Townfall was also teased, though little was revealed about the project other than a possible focus on found-footage horror. However, one project left out of the Silent Hill Transmission may be the series' best chance at a P.T. successor.
Silent Hill: The Short Message Is A Rumored Horror Demo
While the game wasn't announced during last year's Silent Hill Transmission, rumors circulating on new Silent Hill demo game called The Short Message may arrive in the near future. The game, which has apparently been rated in Taiwan, allegedly takes place in an abandoned apartment building. Players will apparently control a character named Anita, who ventures into the building to find her friend Maya. Anita will find herself trapped and forced to confront her fears while avoiding monsters and escaping her own trauma. Additional rumors provide more details on the plot, though this information is unofficial.
Silent Hill: The Short Message Sounds A Lot Like P.T.
While the project remains a mere rumor, descriptions of Silent Hill: The Short Message are very similar to P.T. Considering its absence from last year's Silent Hill Transmission, Konami may be preparing The Short Message for a sudden surprise release. This would mirror the launch of P.T., which was d as an original horror game rather than a Silent Hill demo. The description of The Short Message as a P.T.-style Silent Hill demo obviously links the projects, too. The alleged setting of The Short Message, which will take players to a haunted apartment building, is also reminiscent of P.T. being set in a haunted suburban home instead of Silent Hill itself.
By remaining a secret part of the Silent Hill lineup, The Short Message has the potential to recapture the magic of Hideo Kojima's P.T. demo. Konami might be planning to unexpectedly drop the short survival horror experience, which would drum up plenty of excitement as the series' first new entry in 10 years. Rumors surrounding Silent Hill: The Short Message seem promising, with the demo apparently embracing psychological horror with monsters and scares based on protagonist Anita's own fears. Silent Hill's next games were revealed last year, but The Short Message could arrive at any time to channel P.T. and resurrect the Silent Hill franchise.
