The main characters in Silicon Valley all have their negative and positive qualities. However, the way they handle challenges in the series makes them more or less likable. Furthermore, their demeanor determines their affability, and most characters' personalities remain consistent throughout the series.

Gavin Belson

Silicon Valley's Gavin Belson smiling in front of a screen.

It is hard to argue that Gavin Belson isn't the biggest villain in Silicon Valley. He consistently tries to one-up the Pied Piper team. Furthermore, he is presented as an irresponsible magnate, shown in sequences like when protests form outside his offices.

Gavin treats his company poorly, yelling at his assistants and collaborators. In his repeating actions to take down Pied Piper, Gavin's malicious nature is on display to nearly everyone he interacts with.

Russ Hanneman

Russ Hanneman in Silicon Valley

Russ is one of Silicon Valley's ing characters. He helps the Pied Pieper gang with investments, but he is driven by self-service rather than working toward their success. He is boisterous and loud, exemplified in his flashy car and expletive-filled announcements.

Russ is funny and presents an over-confident positivity. However, as described by Monica Hall, he is a "boorish, pompous, womanizing" man. Russ' smug sensibility makes him less likable than other characters.

Laurie Bream

Laurie Bream looking at a computer sitting at a desk.

Laurie is one of the smarter characters in Silicon Valley. She is successful in the tech world and works with Monica and Pied Piper as long as it is a mutually beneficial relationship. However, she isn't the show's most affable character.

Part of the humor of Laurie's personality is that she is utterly humorless and socially awkward. Furthermore, she proves to be disloyal when she drops Pied Piper from her portfolio after working with them.

Erlich Bachman

Erlich is one of the founding of Pied Piper. However, he doesn't do much for the company. Erlich makes for funny moments due to his laziness. He presents himself as an integral part of the Pied Piper team, among other accomplishments, but doesn't have much to show for it.

He doesn't work hard like his pals but acts entitled to the same rewards as them. Erlich is funny, but his selfishness, displayed in actions like manipulating Big Head to use his finances, makes him less likable than his peers.

Bertram Gilfoyle

Gilfoyle is one of the consistent working of Pied Piper from beginning to end. He is a skilled coder. However, he is also arrogant and seems to take pleasure in bullying others.

His back and forth ribbing with Dinesh is funny, but it often crosses the line of playfulness. He is cynical and mocks others, and acts like his work is beyond criticism. Gilfoyle is funny and gives Silicon Valley some of its best quotes. However, some of his co-workers are more likable than him.

Nelson "Big Head" Bighetti

Big Head holding a Big Gulp and pointing behind him in Silicon Valley.

Big Head isn't the smartest character in Silicon Valley. His empty-headed meandering works out for him though, as he is paid off millions of dollars, and stumbles his way into prestigious titles.

However, he isn't meanspirited and lacks the cut-throat drive of some of the Pied Piper team . Fans like Big Head, and some say he makes for some of the Silicon Valley. He may be airheaded, but his general pleasantness lacking malice makes him affable.

Dinesh Chugtai

Dinesh looking concerned in Silicon Valley.

Dinesh is another consistent working member of the Pied Piper team since its beginning. Fans like Dinesh and some of his best quotes in Silicon Valley. He is a talented coder but is lonely and it is sometimes referenced that he has no friends outside of the start-up.

Dinesh has an ongoing feud with Gilfoyle. However, Dinesh doesn't seem as malicious as him, perhaps only because he isn't as quick with his ribbing. Regardless, Dinesh is enthusiastic about Pied Piper and generally pleasant as he works for its success.

Donald "Jared" Dunn

Jared looking confused Silicon Valley

Many fans might say Jared is the funniest main character in Silicon ValleyHis unpredictable personality, strange history, and perhaps unintentional self-deprecating jokes make for rich humor. However, Jared is also very kind.

Jared is polite almost to a fault, presented in moments like when he asks Richard Hendricks to use the bathroom when they are having an informal meeting. His obsessive care for Richard is one of the show's running gags, but Jared consistently shows respect for others, especially those in his inner circle.

Monica Hall

Monica Hall staring with a furrowed brow in Silicon Valley

Monica is a board member of Pied Piper. She believes in Richard and takes several steps to help him and the team move forward as a successful start-up. Monica is on Pied Piper's side most of the time.

However, Monica proves to be inconsistent. Although she is ionate about Richard's algorithm, she lets him down in certain actions involving the business side of the operation. She proves to be loyal by the end of the series, but it is after a bumpy road.

Richard Hendricks

Richard Hendricks looking concerned and to the left in Silicon Valley.

Richard Hendricks is Silicon Valley's protagonist and one of its most likable characters. Richard is the founder of Pied Piper, and his unique algorithm exemplifies his brilliance. He is also neurotic, awkward, and socially challenged. Richard's personality makes for some of the show's funniest moments.

He is imperfect and lashes out on others on occasion, like during a date with a woman who prefers coding with spaces over tabs. However, he is apologetic, polite, and above all, wants to do what is right. He works to be an ethical CEO and succeed where many others have failed.
