The ending of Silo season 2, episode 1, has a surprising amount of dialogue, considering the rest of the installment's present-day sequences are carried by an impressive physical performance from Ferguson. Without the flashbacks, "The Engineer" would be almost void of spoken sentiment. However, the deluge of words in the final moments isn't just limited to Juliette and the unknown vault-dweller, as the lyrics from a classic composition also bleed into the narrative.

The body of water Juliette crosses is a stand-in for the song's titular river

Juliette Nichols spends a sizable portion of the runtime in "The Engineer" trying to formulate creative ways to traverse the gap, which was once a bridge, to the new Silo's only light source. After a failed rope swing, almost drowning after the fall, and a piecemeal bridge falling apart, Juliette finally achieves her goal - and even manages to come up with a more solid solution once her original ladder fails. Her exploits are perfectly summed up in the lyrical content of "Moon River," which the stranger plays from the safety of his vault.

"Moon river, wider than a mile, I'm crossing you in style someday."

Although Juliette isn't crossing a river, the deep body of water at the bottom of the Silo could easily be folded into the song's implied meaning. Getting across the gap also requires some incredibly creative thinking and immense talent, which would fulfill the line, "I'm crossing you in style." Song choices are often agonized over in movies and TV shows, so it's incredibly unlikely that "Moon River" wasn't chosen for its artful summary of Juliette's endeavors in "The Engineer."

The second verse in "Moon River" continues to reflect Juliette's journey, and could easily be predicting what will happen in the coming episodes. Specifically, Juliette's dynamic with the stranger is probably what the lyrics are foreshadowing. The line, "Two drifters, off to see the world, there's such a crazy world to see," is too poignant to ignore. Both Juliette and the enigmatic man could easily be described as drifters, so it's not beyond the realm of possibility that they manage to put their rough beginning aside and explore what remains of the world a Silo at a time.
