Silo season 2 is now on the way with a story that adapts the second half of Wool, the first book in Howey's trilogy.
During a recent interview with SFX Magazine (via GamesRadar+), Yost comments on how much longer Silo will run for beyond season 2. While the showrunner doesn't provide a firm number of seasons, he does confirm that the show won't be extending its story beyond what Howey has written. According to Yost, he and the creative team are keen to not "drag it on too long." Check out Yost's full comment below:
"We've got plans for how the series would play out if we get to do the whole thing. [The number of seasons is] between me and my friends at Apple TV Plus. The books are a trilogy. This is not Outlander. This is not a long science fiction series. It's a trilogy. We're not going to extend it beyond that.
"That doesn't mean it's going to be three seasons, but it's not going to be 10. It is our goal to answer questions and not frustrate the audience, but deliver things in a logical time, so that when our characters find something out, that's when the audience finds out."
What Yost's Update Means For Silo's Future
How Much Longer Will The Show Run After Season 2?
Yost and his creative team opted to split the events of Wool into two seasons, and it's possible that they'll take this same approach with the remaining two books. That would make Silo a six-season show, but Yost's comment about Outlander could suggest otherwise. Outlander is currently in the midst of season 7, and season 8 is expected to wrap up the show. It's possible that Yost's comparison means Silo will actually end up running for four of five seasons.

Silo Spoilers: What Happens In The Books & Biggest Reveals
Here's a breakdown of all the biggest reveals from the original Hugh Howey Silo books that unfold after the events of the Silo show's season 1 ending.
Whether that happens, however, will depend on the reception to season 2. Silo season 1 ended on a major cliffhanger and the season as a whole was a critical and viewership hit. If season 2 can maintain this momentum, there's no reason to believe season 3 won't get the green light. With Yost having a clear plan for the show's endgame, this will hopefully mean that the show isn't cancelled before its time and that Juliette's story won't go unfinished.
In addition to Ferguson, the Silo cast features Common, Tim Robbins, Chinaza Uchi, Iain Glen, and Avi Nash.
Our Take On Silo's Future Seasons
Yost's Latest Update Is Good News
Though some shows are able to maintain a high bar for quality across many seasons, there have arguably been many more that have stumbled. If a show is wildly popular, it sometimes exists beyond what feels like a natural endpoint because of commercial considerations rather than storytelling ones. There is generally only so much mileage to a show's premise, and moving beyond this point means either reinventing the show and risking turning off long-time fans, or becoming stale as it just offers up more of the same.
The world of Silo would seemingly lend itself well to a run of four or five seasons, and season 1's pacing sometimes feeling a little slow s not moving beyond this. This more modest length will mean the entire show can build toward a climactic final season with minimal padding and "filler." Hopefully, Silo season 2 not only answers some big questions from season 1, but also sets up more adventures to come.
