Occult sims in The Sims 4: Werewolves game pack, having been released in 2022. There are eight main types of occult sims, and all are available to interact, play as, or both.
Occults typically come with The Sims 4, and tend to have varying levels of interactivity. Some have new plot lines and ways of navigating the world, while others are mostly cosmetic variants of regular sims. Their appearances in the game have been met with both adoration and annoyance, with some options being much more highly favored than others. Here are all eight types of occult sims in The Sims 4, ranked from worst to best.

The Sims 4: 15 Highest Paying Careers
In order to make the most Simoleons and to live as lavishly as possible, players should take advantage of the best-paying careers in The Sims 4.
Servos Aren't Different Enough From Regular Sims
From The University Expansion Pack
Service robots, known as "servos", were introduced in The Sims 4: University expansion pack. Sims can build a servo if they possess the right upgrade parts and a high robotics skill. They have an electronic screen for a face, which will emote a cute, green expression when they're content, and a red face when a negative Moodlet is present. They can possess human names and traits (although they cannot have needs-based traits like Glutton), and can form strong bonds with human sims - both platonic and romantic.
The best and worst thing about servos is that they are essentially human sims as robots. There is little difference between servos and humans, other than servos' inability to go swimming or bear their own children. They certainly have an adorable quality, and are entertaining to interact with, but the robots lack their own definitive traits that offer exclusive benefits to playing them. Unless it's purely for the aesthetic, there's nothing that a servo can do that a hired maid or a human sim with fully unlocked benefits can't.
Plant Sims Are Only Temporary
From The Base Game
Plant Sims come with The Sims 4 base game, and are activated when a human sim eats a forbidden fruit. This turns their skin green and gives them a short, dark green haircut. As a plant, they can absorb energy and fulfill their hunger by photosynthesis (in essence, from being outdoors in the sun), and have a new water-based need, which can be fulfilled by showering, standing in the rain, or drinking water. Plant sims can also fulfill their social needs by talking to plants.
Plant Sims are, unfortunately, only a temporary state, and a sim will return to their normal state within a few days. While it is pleasant to see sims being at one with nature and bonding with plants, the plant lifestyle offers little actual benefit to the sim's life, and there are no plant-based powers to meaningfully change the gameplay. In some ways, the plant lifestyle is more difficult to maintain, as sims often get thirsty quickly without water, and certain weather conditions, such as storms or snow, offer little sun.
Ghost Sims Are An Interesting Way To Cheat Death
From The Base Game
Ghosts can be found in The Sims 4 at the site of any lot with gravestones or urns on it. They can also be created by killing a sim. Ghosts may be a different color depending on their mood (e.g, pink for flirty, red for anger), and have a high level of interaction with living sims unless they are released to the Netherworld. Ghost sims can cause trouble by haunting houses and breaking objects, and can even spook a few human sims with their spectral appearance.
Playing as a ghost can be a way to cheat death in The Sims. Instead of playing through a sim's life until they die, then reloading a save or moving on, players can just continue playing as their favorite sims beyond the grave. Ghost sims do not require things that other sims need, such as food or sleep, as they are already dead. Unfortunately, beyond haunting and maybe scaring a few sims, there isn't a huge difference between dead and living sims. Ghost sims can, however, be brought back to life by making ambrosia.
Alien Sims Have Unique Abilities, But Little Customization
From The Get To Work Expansion Pack
Aliens were introduced to The Sims 4 in the Get To Work expansion pack. They can occasionally be encountered in the world, but sims are most likely to meet them if they get abducted, which typically happens to scientists or sims that have satellite dishes. Alien sims can use their brain power to analyze the moods or traits of other sims, and can impregnate sims that typically impregnate other sims. They even have their own secret world, Sixam, which can be accessed via rocket ship.
Aliens have their own set of powers that are rather unique, both among other occult sims and in comparison to human sims. Unlike ghosts or servos, the alien gene can be ed down, and a world can be populated with aliens for a veritable extraterrestrial takeover. At the same time, however, alien sims aren't very customizable, and their alien forms are not very diverse. While their powers are certainly impressive, alien powers do not have much use for everyday living.
Spellcaster Sims Are Incredibly Customizable
From The Realm Of Magic Game Pack
Spellcaster is a life stage that comes with the Realm of Magic game pack. Sims can become spellcasters during creation, or by engaging in the Rite of Ascension. They can learn multiple spells across various schools of casting: Practical Mischief, Untamed, and Alchemy. Spellcasters can rise through the ranks by learning different spells from different schools, and can unlock perks as they practice, such as the ability to learn new skills faster. They can also become immortal by binding their life to familiars.
Spellcasters are arguably the most detailed occult sims available in The Sims 4, with the ability to choose their own styles of magic. They can also become ingrained in magic culture by surrounding themselves with enchanted objects and spellcasting mentors, all in the magical realm of Glimmerbrook. However, their quality is diminished by the fact the perks gained from spellcasting take away the spontaneity of magic gameplay, as well as its susceptibility to many bugs. Moreover, this game pack doesn't have as much replay value as others, and spellcasters may not appeal to many people's preferred gameplay style.
Mermaid Sims Have Useful Powers, But Special Requirements
From The Island Living Expansion Pack
Mermaids came with The Sims 4: Island Living expansion pack, and are built for the island-ocean world of Sulani. Mermaids take human form until they come into with water and their mermaid form is revealed, which is customizable and separate from their human form. They have different needs from human sims: hydration (achieved by swimming or washing), and a slightly altered version of hunger that is fulfilled by eating fish. Mermaids can also change the weather, or affect nearby sim's Moodlets with their powers.
Mermaids are certainly the most beautiful of the occult sims, and they possess some of the most useful powers for everyday living. They can manipulate the moods of others for better social interaction and change unpleasant weather, and can even get rich in The Sims 4 by deep diving for treasure. The main drawback of mermaids is that their reliance on water-based activities means that the mermaid form and their abilities may not be suitable for everyday gameplay.
Vampire Sims Have Unique Mechanics
From The Vampires Game Pack
Vampires are fortunate enough to have an entire game pack, simply called The Sims 4 Vampire Pack, dedicated entirely to them. They are immortal sims who constantly thirst for plasma, which can either be obtained from fruit or from sim victims. Vampire sims can grow in power by quenching their bloodthirst, learning about their own lore, and building relationships with other vampires. They can also unlock perks from their work that increase their vampiric strength.
Players may feel afraid when a vampire is outside their sim's house, and for good reason. Vampire sims are very intimidating, and have a commanding presence that provokes more perilous and antagonistic gameplay. The vampire culture and opportunies to evolve as a vampire provide hours of entertainment and plenty of replay value. Players can find new activities for vampire sims to undertake every day. The one drawback of playing as a vampire, however, is that they risk death from sun exposure unless players are willing to use Sims 4 cheat codes.
Werewolves Are The Best Occult Sims
From The Werewolves Pack
Werewolves are the latest occults to be introduced into The Sims 4, and much like vampires, they have their own game pack. Werewolves are split into the intellectual Moonwood Collective Pack and the scrappy Wildfangs Pack, although sims can live as a lone wolf if they so choose. Packs have various participation requirements and behaviors, without which the relationships between their may deteriorate. Werewolf sims are temperamental and are anchored to the moon, although they can achieve mastery of their powers as they level up.
Werewolves have the most customizable design for players, with the ability to paint their fur with any design, similarly to the Cats & Dogs pack. The werewolf life state offers multiple lifestyles to suit the player's individual gameplay, and offers a sim's lifetime's worth of different activities, social interactions, and tasks to complete. The pack even has cross-pack compatibility, where the werewolves have a rivalry with vampires and special interactions with dogs. Overall, the werewolf life state is just so expansive that it's hard for other occult sim types to come close.
Those are all the occult sim types available in The Sims 4, but whatever comes next may have some new, supernatural surprises. Whether it's bringing back old occult sim types from The Sims 3, like unicorns, genies, and fairies, or introducing something new, the follow-up to The Sims 5 can expand on occult life states in any number of ways.
