The Sims 5 might be in the works according to rumors and leaks, and that makes it an opportunity to fix aspects of its predecessors, such as the active careers in The Sims 4. Added in the Get to Work expansion for The Sims 4, active careers allow players to be more involved in their Sims' jobs by traveling to the workplace with them instead of the workday happening offscreen. While the active careers are an interesting feature added to The Sims, there are only a few of them, and the semi-active careers don't have the same feeling.
Active careers aren't the only gameplay mechanic The Sims 5 can fix, and having a split between active careers, semi-active careers, and ive careers can let players choose how involved they wish to be with their Sims' work. The Sims 4 added three active careers in the Get to Work expansion: detective, scientist, and doctor; followed by actor and interior decorator in the Get Famous and Dream Home expansions. However, there are more careers that could be interesting additions to the active roster.
The Sims 5 Should Add More Active Career Options
The Sims 4 has included more ways to be directly involved in the lives of Sims than any of its predecessors, and The Sims 5 can continue this trend. While there are iconic expansion packs The Sims 5 needs to include, a pack that includes more active careers could add both variety and humor. Since The Sims is a franchise that doesn't take itself too seriously, making jobs like firefighting into active careers could poke fun at the tendency of Sims to start fires while cooking.
Sims Working As Office Workers Or Firefighters Could Be More Fun Than They Might Seem
Aside from giving players more options, some careers could be used to create crossovers for The Sims with TV shows and other media. A collaboration with a show such as The Office, for example, could let Sims go to active office careers and have the option to play pranks on their coworkers. There's also an opportunity to add teaching as an active career, especially after The Sims 4 High School Years expansion brought active high school to the game for teenage Sims.
The potential for active careers in The Sims 5 is as vast as the diversity of jobs in the real world. While it might be nice to have more active jobs included in the base game for The Sims 5, they could also be spread among expansion packs that provide items centered around different careers. For now, active careers beyond detective, scientist, doctor, actor, and interior decorator are only available through the use of mods, but that could change with The Sims 5.
