The lead-up to The Sims 4: My Wedding Stories has been interesting, to say the least. Beyond issues surrounding the marketing of the game pack, early access gameplay showed a product absolutely full of glitches and bugs. Hope for improvement held out until the day-one update, but it now appears that this pack will become yet another part of a long legacy of glitches in The Sims franchise.
While some bugs arguably make the games unplayable at times, they’re usually an endless source of amusement for fans of The Sims. The funniest glitches are those that result in the most torture and mayhem for Sims, without totally breaking the game.
The Sims 4: Maybe The Ground Is Lava?
Anyone who has played The Sims 4 has probably come across this glitch: Sims getting stuck standing on tables, beds, and any other furniture in their vicinity. According to some reports from EA, the team has done a lot of work to stop this bug, which they say is caused when Sims are standing too close together in a crowd.
While routing issues like this can be frustrating, the easy reset-fix makes seeing a random Sim stuck crying for help on a table always good for a laugh.
The Sims: Abominations
There are countless genres of horror, but body horror may be the most unsettling. Case-in-point: The Sim’s horribly distorted character models, frequently shared to the forums.
As far as funny glitches go, this one has the benefits of being bizarre-looking while still being relatively functional. This glitch can actually be seen in most The Sims games, often when aging up Sims from toddlers to kids, or from kids to teens. While this is technically not a bug, the baby mutation can be triggered manually using Sims cheats that enable players to edit adult Sims into toddlers, mid-animated action.
The Sims 4: Dust The Day Away
While many gamers might want more realistic settings and movement, Simmers looking for more realism want their Sims to have to do the most mundane everyday chores. According to The Sims Community, in The Sims 4: Bust the Dust Kit, EA gave the players what they wanted, and then just kept on giving. Before a patch was released, Sims could spend all day vacuuming up dust and never have a fully clean house.
What takes this glitch from aggravating to hilarious is the fact that Sims can actually become millionaires by selling items found in the dust!
The Sims 3: Naked And Afraid
With its functional cars, ultra-customizable Build/Buy mode, and open world, there is a lot to love about The Sims 3. Unfortunately, all that content makes the game notoriously buggy and prone to crashing. One of the early glitches reported by players made Sims stretch out of proportion or, more often, it made the Sim look nude.
This sort of error usually only occurs when custom content is ed and later deleted, but it reportedly happened to Simmers without custom content, as well. While a game crashing is never fun, anything that makes The Sims characters look hilariously unhinged is a great addition to gameplay.
The Sims 4: Toothy Trouble
This glitch can be hilarious, just don’t think about it for too long. In The Sims 4 Create-A-Sim, dark-haired female Sims occasionally appear to have no teeth whatsoever. Like many of the expressions made by Sims, these toothless open-mouthed grins are a great source for laughs, but their cause is a bit unsettling.
According to Comic Book Resources, this glitch actually applies to all hair colors, but with lighter hair colors the gross truth is obvious: they have hair for teeth, or, teeth the color of hair, to be exact. At that point, this silly glitch goes from funny to horrifyingly game-breaking.
The Sims: Puddle Of Futility
According to glitch guides, after the Unleashed expansion was released for The Sims, Simmers soon barraged Maxis' complaint line with reports of a bug causing puddles to form underneath stationary objects. In order for the Sims to mop up the puddles, Simmers actually need to switch to Build/Buy mode to move the objects out of their way.
This might seem like a problem with the game, but this effect was actually included in an effort to make the Unleashed flooding more realistic. As a non-game-breaker, the irony of this so-called bug easily makes it one of the funniest in the series.
The Sims 2: Reverse Jesus Powers
The utility of being able to walk on water might be pretty straightforward, but Sims’ ability to swim through the ground in The Sims 2 is a bit less useful. This is another glitch that can also be seen in other entries into the series, though it’s usually short-lived in other entries in the series.
According to player reports, the swimming bug in The Sims 2 happens when the Sim is trying to exit the pool. Simmers could laugh as their Sims floundered around through the ground until they decided to free them from the torture with an object reset.
The Sims: Upside Down Head Syndrome
A classic glitch ed by many long-time players and die-hard fans of The Sims is the upside-down head glitch from the first game. This bug, caused by corruption in the character files, resulted in a Sim’s icon being replaced with an eerie, upside-down, woman’s head. This can also cause the Sim’s head to become completely invisible.
Many old forum posts and guides describe Simmers happily playing their games when suddenly this spooky face popped up, sometimes accompanied by a creepy noise! The nostalgia that comes along with this unexpected, and relatively fixable, encounter only makes it funnier with time.
The Sims 4: Till Death Do Us Part
Maybe it’s unfair to take a dig against such a new pack, but My Wedding Stories is simply too full of ridiculous glitches not to nab a spot on this list. While players have reported plenty of game-breaking issues in the pack, some simple glitches are still entertaining.
When it comes to ridiculously broken animations in The Sims 4, the spousal kiss has to take the cake, wedding pun intended. Spouses in The Sims 4 won’t always glitch together into some sort of wisted metaphor for marriage when they kiss, but it’s always a fun time when they do.
The Sims 2: Cheat On Me, Shame On You
Some Sims glitches can be mysterious as well as hilarious, especially in the earlier games. For some reason, Simmers report that deleting a bed while Sims are using it for intimate moments can trigger one to accuse the other of cheating in The Sims 2.
Deleting in-use objects is one of the many small ways Simmers can get joy out of bringing chaos to their Sims’ lives, which really makes this glitch more of a funny feature than a bug. While it won’t happen every time, it’s worth a try for fans of chaotic gameplay!
