Producer Amy Pascal wants to revive Drew Goddard's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is already one of the year's most critically acclaimed films (superhero, animated, or otherwise).

Sony isn't wasting any time building on that success either, and already has sequels to Venom and Spider-Verse in the works (not to mention, an Morbius the Living Vampire starring Jared Leto. However, if Pascal is to be believed, the postponed villain team-up Sinister Six might not be too far behind those movies.

In an interview with Bad Times at the El Royale filmmaker originally wrote for the Amazing Spider-Man series. Pascal told Vanity Fair she still hopes to make the movie with Goddard, whenever he's ready and willing:

“I’m just waiting for Drew to be ready to direct it. I would do anything with Drew Goddard. I’m just waiting for him to tell me he wants to."

Spider-Man versus Sinister Six

Goddard actually stepped down as showrunner on Marvel's X-Force (his intended Deadpool spinoff) has been delayed by Disney's purchase of Fox. It's worth noting, however, that X-Force hasn't been outright cancelled yet, so Goddard may yet work on that film next. Still, depending on how things shake out once the Disney-Fox deal is finalized, it sounds like Goddard's Sinister Six plans could be revived instead.

This year's Bad Times at the El Royale showed that Goddard (among other things) knows how to craft a crackling yarn featuring unscrupulous characters. That makes the prospect of him tackling Sinister Six all the more enticing, especially now that he'll have more creative freedom than he did back when the spinoff was part of the Amazing Spider-Man continuity. Either way, here's hoping he gets to actually direct a comic book movie at some point in the future.
