Warning! Spoilers for Sirens ahead!

Peter took Simone on a quahogging adventure in Sirens, and this scene subtly told us everything we needed to know about these characters. Simone initially followed Peter on Michaela's orders, since the second Mrs. Kell was suspicious that her husband was having an affair. This suspicion came down to Michaela's discovery that Peter hadn't been in Japan like he said he was. Terrified of divorce and the brutal prenuptial agreement that would leave her with nothing, Michaela sent Simone to follow Peter and gather proof of his betrayal in Sirens.

The truth of what Peter was up to was both simpler and more complicated than Michaela had suspected. Simone successfully followed Mr. Kell in Sirens episode 3, "Monster," but she eventually strayed too close to the man and was found out. Rather than get angry, Peter invited Simone to him in an activity called "quahogging," something the young assistant had never heard of before. It turned into a moment of bonding for the pair. Peter seemed kind and reasonable, but several big tells in this scene hint at Sirens' final big twist.

"Quahogging" Is The Term For Harvesting Quahog Clams

Peter Learned To Do This From His Mother's Side Of The Family

Peter quahogging in Sirens

Quohogging turned out to be the very last thing Simone would have expected. Her boss' millionaire husband kindly demanded that Simone put on a pair of fishing waders, and they marched out into the mucky low tide to harvest quohogs, the official clam of Rhode Island. As it turns out, this is a pastime that Peter learned from his mother's side of the family, which is made up of generations of fishermen. Once they had all their quahogs, Peter announced in Sirens that he planned to make his delicious quahog chowder.

Sirens did all the work here to make Peter look like a better person than Michaela, but it was all misleading.

Peter's quahogging made him look like a genuinely down-to-earth guy. While we would have expected Michaela's husband to be a rich jerk sneaking off to have affairs with beautiful women, he was actually just looking for some peace and quiet to be a normal guy. His story about his mother's side of the family revealed that he wasn't just the product of generational wealth. He valued hard work and a peaceful day of quahogging (followed by some yummy chow-dah). Sirens did all the work here to make Peter look like a better person than Michaela, but it was all misleading.

How Peter & Simone's Quahogging Scene Sets Up Their Final Twist In Sirens

We Learned All We Needed To Know About Peter

At the end of Sirens, Peter decided to divorce Michaela and marry Simone instead. As surprising as this twist was, especially considering Simone's loyalty to "Kiki," it was all perfectly laid out by the quahogging scene. As Peter and Simone harvested these hard-shell clams, the older man talked all about how Michaela purposely drove a wedge between him and his children. They blamed her for Peter and his first wife Jocelyn's divorce, despite the fact that it had been he who had had an affair and left the woman.

"You're Not A Monster": The Deeper Meaning Of Simone, Devon & Michaela's Sirens Stories & Greek Mythology Connection Explained

Netflix's Sirens takes inspiration from the seductive, female monsters of Greek mythology, but the series' ending points out the problems here.

Sure, Peter seemed down to earth while quahogging, but his conversation with Simone demonstrated that he wasn't taking any responsibility for the time he missed with his children. To him, it was all Michaela's fault, and he subtly began to poison Simone against his wife during their quahogging adventure. At the time, Simone was ready to defend her boss. However, later, when faced with the possibility of returning to her traumatic life in Buffalo, she grabbed onto the idea that Peter had planted in her mind. This made betraying Michaela a bit easier.

Sirens used the quahogging scene to manipulate audiences into thinking Michaela was the monster while Peter was this likable guy just harvesting some grub.

Sirens used the quahogging scene to manipulate audiences into thinking Michaela was the monster while Peter was this likable guy just harvesting some grub. However, in truth, both these characters made self-serving decisions that only harmed the people around them. In the end, Michaela at least took responsibility for some of those decisions. Peter, on the other hand, only blamed his wife. Simone may be up for quahogging with Peter for a time or two after Sirens, but eventually, she will become the next person he blames for his problems.
