An older clip of him and Christine Brown, which discussed Ysabel's surgery, resurfaced online. His attitude about the clip left some viewers believing that he had no intention of ever being at the hospital when his daughter got her procedure. One said that he, "NEVER would've gone" to Ysabel's procedure. Several viewers were appalled at Kody being so dismissive of Ysabel's, "pain," and called him a, "bully." Many couldn't conceive of, "a parent choosing pain for their child" when there's a solution. One fan called him a, "selfish garbage human" for his treatment of Ysabel, and how he was rude to Christine while using, "mocking hand gestures." It angered followers that Kody felt he knew, "more than the medical professionals" about his daughter's needs.
Other fans felt that this scene showed how, "Christine's kids meant nothing to him," as he was willing to leave Ysabel in, "constant pain." However, when Dayton Brown needed, "cosmetic surgery," Kody was willing to agree to that. Fans thought he looked, "ridiculous," arguing about why Ysabel shouldn't have surgery. Kody, "didn't want to spend the money" to fix Ysabel's back because it wouldn't have benefited him directly. However, he was more than willing to splash out cash on. "a recommitment ceremony." Fans thought Kody was angry over TLC money following season 18's conclusion. His reluctance to care for his child, and show for the, "expensive" treatment she needed, further proves his selfishness.
