Summary

  • Kody Brown's embracing his villain role, and considering acting like an, "a**hole" because his family already sees him that way.
  • Kody's relationship with his children is deteriorating as he openly battles them onscreen. It's similar to Darth Vader's treatment of his children in Star Wars films, TV shows, and comics.
  • Kody's favoritism towards wife Robyn, and neglect of his other wives, has caused significant damage to the Brown family's world. Darth Vader destroyed Alderaan, his daughter Leia's home planet.

Kody Brown's talking about leaning into the villain role, and calling to mind the dastardly acts of a certain Star Wars icon, Darth Vader. For many seasons, Kody's tried to play the nice guy. However, it was all too easy to see through that flimsy facade. He clearly favored one wife, Robyn Brown, and then denied doing so, while openly feuding with his own children.

Now, he's sharing his darker attitude with the world. He's sick of being roasted by ex Christine Brown, as well as his remaining wives Janelle Brown, Meri Brown, and Robyn. Kody's anger's eating him alive, and he seriously needs to chill.

8 Kody Says He Wants To Be The "A**hole People Think He Is

Sister Wives' Kody Brown and his exes, Meri, Janelle and Christine

In Sister Wives season 18, episode 4, Kody's so defensive. He's getting criticized by pretty much everyone. Darth Vader also gets some shade. The issue is that these two villains believe that the end justifies the means. Kody's unloading with bros (and past and present wives), and telling cameras that he's considering acting like an, "a**hole" because his family already think he is one. Vader also embraced the dark side, letting evil consume him. Vader had big plans, and hardly ever let empathy get in the way. Kody's following in his footsteps by doing whatever it takes to achieve his goals, even if that means being the bad guy.

7 Kody's Turning On His Kids

Montage of Sister Wives' Kody Brown and Christine Brown

Darth Vader isn't a warm and fuzzy parent. He even tried to frighten Luke Skywalker by threatening to bring Princess Leia Organa to the dark side. Throughout the Star Wars canon, he's vile to his children. Lately, Kody's giving him a run for his money by openly battling his kids onscreen. In season 18, Kody says that he's trying to get along with the children that he and Janelle share, but he's getting nowhere. In fact, he's asking Janelle to step in and smooth things over. Acting as an intermediary all the time is really getting on her nerves. Janelle already had to parent alone during the pandemic.

Kody's erring by talking about his issues with his children onscreen. They're rebelling by doing the very same. In episode 4, Garrison, Savanah and Gabriel Brown spoke out. They feel neglected by Kody, and believe that they, "kept the door open" when other of the Brown family didn't. Kody shouldn't blame all the problems on his kids. It's something he's doing that's really in very poor taste.

6 Kody Destroyed The Brown Family's World By Favoring Robyn

Kody and robyn from Sister Wives

Darth Vader destroyed Alderaan, but may have regretted blowing up his daughter's planet. Will Kody regret destroying the Brown family by giving Robyn special treatment? It's quite possible he will. Despite the favoritism, Sister Wives' Robyn Brown's not very happy in season 18. She's whining about Kody more than usual. She's getting petty, going so far as to call his special crêpe recipe, "nasty." While Kody didn't actually destroy an entire homeworld like Darth Vader, he did some damage.

At this stage, Janelle says she's broke because she put all her money into the Coyote project. Kody's denying that one of his wives is more or less penniless. He says she has the same, "assets" as the other wives. So, why would Janelle get so heated about her finances? She's living in some basic home, which she's renting, while Kody and Robyn have a house that's palatial by comparison. If Kody's living large with Robyn while his other wives go without, that's some major "dark side" vibes.

5 Kody Does The Same Villain Stuff Over & Over Again

Kody and Christine from Sister Wives, looking angry

Kody's very "one note" in of how he attacks others. Darth Vader also used the same tactics repeatedly, including that heavy breathing thing that scared (or killed) his underlings. Kody relies on certain manipulative practices in order to appear less evil. For example, he twists things around to make the women seem like the problem. He did that when he called some of his spouses, "princesses." He's doing it again in season 18. During the current installment, he said Janelle was, "mean," even though she's put up with him for years.

Janelle's endured a lot, and mostly, she's stayed calm. It says a lot that she's lashing out now, as she was the rational and businesslike wife. She was Kody's sounding board. Imagine how angry she must be to swear at Kody onscreen. He's the father of her children, after all. To call Janelle "mean" is projection. Kody's putting his own flaws onto a woman who's been raising his kids alone for what feels like years. How unfair is that? Meanwhile, she says she has no money at the age of 50. That's a lot to do to a woman, but, like Vader, he never, ever takes ability.

4 Kody's Vader-Like Appetite For Destruction Is Insatiable

Sister Wives Kody Brown

As if the Sister Wives equivalent of blowing Alderaan to smithereens (i.e. only loving Robyn) wasn't enough, Kody's going to make his wives feel bad about everything that's happened. He's going to blame his children for every single issue that they have. Kody can be very narcissistic, and he's seemingly unable to put himself in another person's shoes. Psychologists are well-acquainted with a phenomenon known as narcissistic rage. The narcissist, when provoked, will dole out punishment that's way too harsh. They will overreact in a way that's almost... dazzling. It's definitely a red flag when a person's that vindictive.

In the comics, Star Wars "baddie" Darth Vader lost his mother, Shmi. She was kidnapped, and when he found her at a Tusken Raider camp, she was still alive. However, she soon died because her injuries were severe. That was terrible, but so was Darth Vader's response. He raged, taking his revenge by leveling the entire camp. His anger was out of control, and maybe a mask for his grief. He doesn't do well with the softer emotions. His actions at the camp showcased his homocidal desires. Killing everyone couldn't bring his mother back.

While Kody hasn't killed, he's so often broken his wives' spirits. However, this scarily vindictive side of himself is something that he doesn't acknowledge. Overall, he has trouble understanding himself. He feels like a hero who's trying to get justice. Meanwhile, he leaves so much destruction in his wake. When will he wake up?

While he isn't getting violent, he's neglected three of his spouses for eons. They frequently felt sad, and probably still do. This "punishment" never stops. By refusing to say to them, "I only love Robyn," he created a situation so toxic as to be truly shocking. However, Janelle, Meri and Christine kept hanging in there, trying to believe in his Coyote Utopia and more. Were those the actions of a good man?

3 Darth Vader Wasn't Super Nice To "Younglings" (Is Kody The Same?)

Sister Wives Paedon, Christine and Kody

In the comic books, Vader really lost it, wiping out "younglings." Meanwhile, Kody's relationships with many of his children, including Paedon Brown, are definitely on the rocks. Paedon, who appears in Sister Wives season 18, seems to consider his father a bit of a joke at this point. He was all about mocking Robyn and Kody while hanging out with his mother, Christine. He sneered at Kody and Robyn's weak immune systems, and perhaps cloaks his hurt by taking lighthearted jabs. That jolly approach might not be the worst strategy, as, like his mother, Paedon actually looks pretty happy these days.

2 Kody's Talking About The "Devil"

Sister Wives Robyn & Kody Brown

There's been some very strange talk from Kody this season. He's calling himself a devil, and while he's clearly not the best man right now, this may be reverse psychology. By comparing himself to the worst of the worst, he may be trying to make people think that he's really not that bad. Many families have divorces, and the process is rarely simple or painless. However, comparing himself to Satan is remarkably histrionic. It's something Darth Vader would do.

Sister Wives season 18 star Kody is really camping it up in the new installment. In fact, he's hamming it up like the famous Star Wars villain. Kody's jackbooting around, showing his power, but his power's on the wane. His plural marriage, which is the source of the fame and fortune, is in its death throes. Offscreen, three wives have fled. As Kody considers going "full villain," he doesn't seem to realize that he's already there.

1 Vader Spared His Son (Will Kody Mend Fences With His Children?)

Sister Wives' Gwendlyn Brown, Kody Brown and Robyn Brown looking serious and angry

Vader ultimately spared Luke, perhaps because some part of him still loved his child. Darth Vader, psychologically damaged by trauma, went to the Dark Side with a vengeance. However, he couldn't bring himself to kill his son. Kody's feuds with his kids, including Gwendlyn Brown, who insults him at YouTube, show some troubling dysfunction. Nonetheless, there are glimmers of hope.

While Kody's truly awful for putting down his trans child, Leon Brown, and warring with Paedon, Gwendlyn and more, he's making progress with some of his other kids. For example, at the end of May, he reunited with his daughter Savanah, attending her high school graduation. She didn't seem unhappy that he was there. He made the scene in a flashy David Yurman pendant.

Sister Wives season 18 celeb Kody's not a perfect parent. He's a very flawed husband. Is he a good person? While everyone has their bright points and shadow sides, Kody's veering out of "good guy" territory, like a train that's gone right off the rails. Like Darth Vader, Kody's surrendering to the evil in himself. He's possibly glorying in it.
