That means prospective players will have to wait almost a whole additional to finally grab the game.

According to Fortnite's massive seasonal events and consistently engaging content drops. Skull & Bones is said to adopt Fortnite’s social and narrative elements, which will make it much closer to Rare’s Sea of Thieves, with a very similar approach of delivering new content and adventures planned in tow. Simply put, Ubisoft Singapore is abandoning a competitive focus in favor of live-service social interactions.

Ubisoft Singapore developers hinted at this focus shift more than a year ago on another Ubisoft Forward soon, so there's a chance that Skull & Bones could make an appearance in some form.

It's most probable that Ubisoft was worried about the potential longevity of the game and the ways it could be monetized long-term. There’s a sensible shift in the industry towards the games as a service model, which is influencing numerous companies - including Ubisoft - to introduce new solutions going as far as rebooting titles. Skull & Bones might actually benefit from it a lot in of gameplay variety and richness, which in return will attract a loyal audience, much like it happened to Fortnite (and, to a lesser extent, Sea of Thieves).
