Skull & Bones Delayed To 2023
A new update from Ubisoft has revealed that Skull & Bones has been delayed to March 9th, 2023, citing the need to polish and balance the game.
Reports suggest that Ubisoft's open-world pirate game Skull & Bones reveal in July, and now sources claim that the game's release date could actually be imminent.
When it was first announced, Skull & Bones was billed as a spiritual successor to Ubisoft's 2013 game Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag. The beloved entry in the long-running historical sci-fi series brought players to the Golden Age of Piracy, allowing them to sail across a massive Caribbean open world to explore tropical islands and plunder loot. Early reports suggested that Skull & Bones would focus entirely on multiplayer naval combat, abandoning Black Flag's on-foot island exploration, but more recent rumors point towards a single-player campaign and character customization. A recent Skull & Bones game rating hints at an impending release date, but no official announcement has been made by Ubisoft.
According to Twitter Aggiornamenti Lumia (via Eurogamer), Skull & Bones is set to release on November 8, 2022. The Italian blogger is known for reporting on new Xbox and Microsoft Windows digital storefront releases, suggesting that the release date was gleaned from one such marketplace. Well-known industry insider Tom Henderson has also backed up the claim, adding additional validity to the November 8 release date. As of now this release date is a mere rumor, but if Ubisoft truly intends to release Skull & Bones within five months it can be assumed that an announcement is imminent.
Aggiornamenti Lumia and Tom Henderson are not official sources, but a November 8 release for Skull & Bones does fit with official statements from Ubisoft. Back in May the developer gave a release window for Skull & Bones, confirming that the swashbuckler simulator will set sail within the current fiscal year. The 2022-2023 fiscal year ends on March 31, 2023, so unless the title is delayed again it will be released before the end of 2022 or early in 2023. With rumors hinting that Skull & Bones has been significantly reworked since its initial reveal, Ubisoft will also want to reintroduce the title well before its actual release.
Ubisoft's Skull & Bones has been in development for years, making the game's final form and ultimate fate a complete mystery. New rumors about the game have recently begun cropping up, and now Aggiornamenti Lumia and Tom Henderson suggest that the pirate project will be released in only a few months. While this November 8 release date is unconfirmed, Ubisoft fans should scan the horizon for any glimpse at Skull & Bones.
