Of all the mage archetypes in Destruction magic’s fire, frost, and shock spells are about as close as Skyrim gets to Avatar's central magic arts, and these can feel repetitive and predictable after numerous playthroughs. It’s easy to fall into a familiar rhythm, but for those who want a fresh take on Destruction magic, three particular Skyrim mods can work together like sweet rolls and onion-banana juice, turning the Dragonborn into an Avatar on Aang or Korra's level.
Swashbuckling and archery aren’t foreign concepts in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender, but they are tools mostly relied upon by non-benders, who take somewhat of a backseat to benders in the show's society. The province of Skyrim is almost the opposite: Magic is an unpredictable, ostracized practice reserved to the broken-down College of Winterhold. Strength of arms takes precedence in this culture, with the Companions, Ysgramor, and Eorland Grey-Mane garnering much more regional fame than mages like Tolfdir or Savos Aren. As such, strategies of Skyrim's swords, axes, and maces are revered, while Necromancy, Conjuration, and Destruction are more often associated with the Thalmor and the Forsworn.
Using the three mods below, players can create a Skyrim Avatar build that harnesses the power of all four elements - not just the three in the default Destruction tree - with martial arts animations more reminiscent of the TV series than Skyrim's clunky punches.
Become An Elemental Bender In Skyrim With New Destruction Magic
Skyrim’s best magic spells in the same tree. The new Tornado, Earthquake, and Rain Cloak spells match the damage of Ice Storm, Firestorm, and Lightning Cloak respectively, so they feel lore-friendly and never like a more powerful replacement.
Each new element has a secondary effect, just like those from the standard version of Skyrim. Earth can stagger targets and prevent health regeneration, air has a chance to knock targets off their feet, and water halts magicka and stamina regeneration. The mod also comes with new perks for Destruction, Enchanting (there are new enchantments for each element), and even new Earth, Wind, and Water Atronachs.
Replace Skyrim's Combat With Avatar's Unarmed Attacks
The mod uniquely fresh Skyrim character build.
Use Skyrim's Spells While Punching & Kicking, Just Like Aang
The Wizard Warrior - Spellsword Magic Combat Evolved by dhxxqk2010 is also integral, as it allows spells to be cast while punching or when holding weapons. When all three mods are combined, players can cast their new Elemental Destruction spells as they perform Eskyrim’s new attack animations. Nothing in Skyrim feels more like Avatar: The Last Airbender than hurling boulders with a kick and a punch.
The last piece of the puzzle is to reconsider the map itself: With some creativity, it’s not hard to reimagine The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’s northernmost cities of Windhelm and Winterhold as the Northern Water Tribe. Markarth, a stone city built into a mountainside, is not so unlike the proud Earth Kingdom. Solitude’s aggressive expansionism into the region paints it as the Fire Nation, and the cloistered Greybeards of High Hrothgar are the isolated remnants of the Avatar: The Last Airbender's Air Nomads.
