Dwayne Johnson's Skyscraper has found a new life on Netflix. The movie, which premiered in 2018, stars Johnson as a private security consultant and ex-Marine Will Sawyer, who must save his family from a burning Chinese skyscraper, a disaster for which he is being framed. Although Skyscraper eventually made $304.9 million worldwide off its budget of around $129 million, it essentially bombed at the domestic box office with a gross of $68.4 million.

Per Netflix's The Out-Laws, Extraction 2, and Run Rabbit Run. With 4.4 million viewers, Skyscraper has racked up a total of 7.5 million viewing hours in a single week, making its first appearance on the chart.

Could Skyscraper 2 Happen Anytime Soon?

Dwayne Johnson hangs from a ledge in Skyscraper

Although Johnson's career has always been hit-and-miss critically, Skyscraper was a major miss at the time. With a 48 percent score, it's the star's lowest-rated movie on Rotten Tomatoes from the late 2010s, coming ahead of a string of Fresh hits that included Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, Fighting with My Family, and Jumanji: The Next Level. His post-Skyscraper success streak wouldn't be broken until 2021 when the Red Notice Rotten Tomatoes score dipped to 36 percent.

So far, there has not been word of a Skyscraper sequel due to its poor overall reception. However, Johnson's career has been built on franchises and sequels. His projects include Fast X Part 2, a live-action Moana remake, and even a sequel to Red Notice, which performed extremely well on Netflix despite its low Rotten Tomatoes score.

It remains to be seen if Skyscraper sticks around on the Netflix Top 10 after this week's debut. However, if it does, it could potentially garner enough audience interest that proper talks could begin around a sequel. Johnson and his team have made a habit of recognizing when there is audience demand for further entries in a franchise, so Skyscraper 2 could very well become a possibility.
