While the coronavirus outbreak has brought many places to a standstill, some tech companies are finding themselves in need of keeping up. This is largely due to how much the pandemic has changed the way huge chunks of the world population now work.
With so many people staying and culture might continue even after the coronavirus crisis comes to an end. For many, this could mean that work-life will largely depend on technologies designed for remote communication and workflow, like Zoom, Skype, and Slack. While this is a difficult time for everyone, it is no surprise that companies who own these products are seeing brisk business now.
One of those is Slack who recently explained how things were changing for the company in a recent blog post. The update came after the company's CEO, Stewart Butterfield, posted a long Twitter thread on how fast things have been changing for the company, both organizationally and financially, due to the pandemic. In the thread, Butterfield gives a timeline of significant events and highlights the exponential increase in demand Slack has seen, starting from the beginning of March.
Platfroms Witnessing A Spike In Demand
From March 9th to March 26th, Slack saw an increase of a staggering 2.5 million simultaneous and connected active s. To put this into perspective, it took slack 1,597 days (from October 2015 to March 9, 2020), to go from 1 million to 10 million s. However, they are not the only company seeing an uptick in demand. Slack's chief competitor, Microsoft Teams also saw a record spike in usage which Microsoft prevent trolls bombing public chats.
It is the same story for social platforms like new co-watching feature for it's video-chat, as part of a series of coronavirus-related update. With the outbreak looking unlikely to slow down anytime soon, there is a good chance companies will have to continue letting the majority of their staff work from home. As a result, it should be expected that an increased demand will continue to fuel the need for even more technology-based solutions that make working from home more efficient and productive.
