Erica Durance shares what she would want from a potential live-action Superman TV shows of all time. In the current age of streaming, the superhero series is also continuously finding a new audience all around the world, making it one of the most crucial properties in DC's live-action legacy.
Screen Rant recently spoke with the Smallville star ahead of the Salute to Smallville convention, which is happening this weekend. During the interview, Durance was asked about the Smallville animated sequel show that Welling and Rosenbaum have in development, and she revealed what storylines she would love to see explored for Lois in the potential revival, sharing the following:
I'd love to have explored where she would have gone further in her career. Whether it was for her to be a mother, how she balanced all of that. I'd like to delve a little more into her past, her experiences with her dad, and how her upbringing shaped her a little bit more and just seeing her grow into another person, a grown up version of herself. But I'd love to keep her complicated and full of conflict and not always doing the right thing and not always saying the right thing, because there's more people like that out there, I think, in the world, than the ones that seem to be super slick.
What Erica Durance's Comments Mean For The Smallville Sequel Show
Lois' Motherhood Would Be A Compelling Story
As TV sequel, knowing that key cast like Durance's Lois are on board is extremely encouraging. With Smallville being the ultimate origin story for Clark Kent, the Superman prequel drama also gave a solid depiction of Lois in her early years before becoming the character everyone knows and loves from the comics. By the time the Smallville series finale aired in 2011, viewers not only got to see Clark fully realized as Superman, but Lois being the star Daily Planet reporter she is known to be in the lore.

The Original Plan For Smallville’s Ending Explained
If Smallville's creators never left the series, it could've ended differently. Here's what's known about their original vision for the show's ending.
During Crisis on Infinite Earths's Smallville celebration, featuring Welling and Durance's return as Clark and Lois, the Arrowverse writers planted a solid seed that could allow a whole new chapter for them to be explored in a hypothetical series revival. Concerning what Durance spoke about earlier, Lois exploring motherhood would be a compelling arc, especially in contrast to Clark as a father and superhero. Whether that would be part of the Smallville animated sequel remains to be seen, but it is one of many stories they can tackle.
Our Take On Erica Durance's Smallville Return Comments
With Durance's depiction of Lois being one of the best aspects of the original show, it is a no-brainer to have her back for the animated sequel series, especially with all the stories they could focus on with her all these years later. The bigger unanswered question is if the sequel will come to fruition, as it is all up to Warner Bros. Discovery to give Welling and Rosenbaum the greenlight to produce the show. Hopefully, the world will see Smallville live again sooner rather than later.
Salute to Smallville takes place this weekend, October 5-6, at the Hilton Parsippany Hotel in New Jersey.
