To this day, Smallville is the longest-running live-action Superman TV show, while exploring new takes on the iconic mythology. As Welling wore a variation of Brandon Routh's costume from Superman Returns, Buffy2Ville shared new artwork where the actor is pitched with not one, but ten different costumes.

The Smallville designs pay homage to past live-action Superman costumes like Henry Cavill's costume in the DCEU. Some of the designs are also imagined with a more futuristic look if Welling's Superman was explored further into the Smallville timeline.

What Tom Welling's Superman Costume Could Look Like In A Revival

While Welling never wore the full Superman suit in Smallville, a TV show sequel would allow him to finally suit up properly. With the many versions that exist in the DC canon, there is one in particular that would be very fitting for his version of the Man of Steel. Even though most DC readers are familiar with Superman's black suit as the one he wore in The Return of Superman, a more modern storyline did bring the alternative look back for Krypton's last son.

In 2015, DC Comics published a mini-series by Dan Jurgens called Superman: Lois and Clark, which sees the iconic hero and Lois Lane raising their son, Jon Kent. However, in this book, Clark has a grown beard and is also donning the black-and-silver costume, which would be perfect for Welling's Superman, especially after Crisis on Infinite Earths, where it was revealed that Clark and Lois have two daughters. If a Smallville revival happened, it could take place after Crisis on Infinite Earths where Clark's powers are restored, but also focus on him being an older Superman.

From a practical standpoint, this version of the Superman costume would likely be something Welling would be more open to, as opposed to a more traditional look. This black-and-silver Superman costume would also be refreshing from a story perspective and stand out from other live-action Superman portrayals. Hopefully, if a Smallville sequel ever gets greenlit, Welling will finally be seen in at least one suit.
